Control & Instrumentation Integrity Engineer - Remote with travel - £51,000 to £60,000

National Gas has an exciting and important role in net zero and in leading a fair energy transition for the UK. We will do this by developing the green gas system of tomorrow, while delivering the natural gas needs of today.

About the role:

We're looking for a professional engineer (ideally IEng or CEng) to expand the Integrity Engineering Team as part of this future.

The Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Integrity Engineer role supports the whole gas transmission network, both operations and project delivery, and you’ll provide a focus for C&I integrity issues and queries and represent the Electrical Integrity Team at meetings and workshops through the UK. This is a vital part in supporting the wider business to deliver and perform successfully.

A key part of the role is reviewing management of change documentation, project documentation, and inspection and test documentation prior to build and commissioning. Some projects may be small, others very complicated and take years to complete. After you have demonstrated your professionalism and knowledge, you will be given the responsibility to authorise and approve documentation, formally accept and close projects.

You'll ensure compliance with all relevant U.K. legislations i.e., EAWR, DSEAR, CDM etc., all relevant British Standards and accepted COP’s, National Gas Transmission policies and procedures within the C&I integrity environment, providing assurance of the integrity of the control and instrumentation systems at the terminals, compressor stations and above ground installations around our very large UK wide gas network.

As a professional engineer, you would be expected to take full responsibility for your decisions, but confident enough to seek support from a competent team of colleagues who will form the team in which you work, and other teams within the business. You'll develop our internal processes to improve quality, efficiency and compliance, monitoring the performance of the integrity process.

You'll have honed your stakeholder management skills as you will need excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate, negotiate and influence at all levels of the business and with external contractors, regulatory bodies and peer organisations.

The role location is flexible but with an expectation to come to an office (mainly Warwick) for meetings or operational sites as required for the role, so you will need a current full UK driving licence.

What we're looking for:

Essential -

  • Have a degree (or equivalent) in an electrical, electronic or instrumentation engineering related discipline
  • Experience and knowledge of the design, build, commissioning, maintenance and operation of industrial automation and control systems on high hazard process plant
  • Incorporated or chartered status or have a formal development plan in place to achieve incorporated or chartered engineer status
  • Proven experience and demonstrable knowledge in the design, review/appraisal of most of the following areas:
    • Equipment and systems suitable for installation within hazardous gaseous environments
    • Industrial control and alarm systems
    • Instrumentation systems
    • Cyber security systems
  • Full UK car driving licence

Desirable -

  • Hold any of the following relevant industry certifications:
    • Functional Safety - TUV Functional Safety Professional/Engineer
    • Hazardous Areas - CompEx Ex01-04, Ex12a, Ex12b
    • Cyber Security - ISA/IEC 62443 Certificate Program (Certs 1, 2 and 3) / GIAC Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP)
  • Previous experience working in a similar role within a high hazard industry in the UK or Europe

What we can offer you:

Annual bonus of up to 6% based on personal and company performance
26 days’ holiday plus statutory holidays - option available to buy extra holiday days
Company car
Generous double-match pension scheme - for every £1 you put in, we'll add £2 (max company contribution 12%)

Excellent family friendly provisions - maternity/paternity/adoption/shared parental leave
Career progression, professional training and development - including access to LinkedIn Learning
Employee assistance programme offering free confidential professional counselling 24/7
Financial support to help you cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions
