Date: 14 Nov 2024
Location: GB
Company: National Gas
Senior Mechanical Engineer (Rotating Machinery) - Remote with travel - £59,000 to £68,000
National Gas has an exciting and important role in net zero and in leading a fair energy transition for the UK. We will do this by developing the green gas system of tomorrow, while delivering the natural gas needs of today.
About the role:
We're seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team and play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the performance of our critical assets, including gas turbines, power turbines, and compressors.
In this role, you’ll work closely with innovation and asset health projects, contributing to the development of asset strategies and investment plans that prioritise the longevity and efficiency of our infrastructure. Your expertise will be instrumental in driving improvements across our machinery fleet by identifying industry best practices and applying them to maximize value for the business.
A typical day will involve a mix of technical oversight and hands-on involvement, including visiting compressor stations to assess and refine maintenance policies, identifying operational risks, and proactively developing mitigation strategies. You’ll be a key point of contact for specialised rotating machinery advice across the organisation, and your input will guide decisions on maintenance and upgrades for rotating machinery on the National Transmission System (NTS).
We’re looking for a someone who can champion cost-effective and efficient maintenance policies, leveraging their knowledge to propose changes that reduce maintenance efforts and costs without compromising safety or performance. You'll have a direct impact on the asset health and operational reliability of our machinery, ensuring optimal performance for the long term.
The role location is flexible but with an expectation to come to an office (mainly Warwick) for meetings or operational sites on average 2 days a week, so you will need a current full UK driving licence.
If you’re an experienced engineer with a passion for machinery and continuous improvement, we’d love to hear from you.
What we're looking for:
Essential -
- Degree level (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g. mechanical or mechatronic)
- Chartered or working towards chartership in an engineering discipline
- Expert technical knowledge of gas turbines, power turbines, centrifugal compressors and balance of plant
- Technical understanding of rotating machinery
- Experience in developing and managing policy documents relating to rotating machinery assets
- Understanding of API, DSEAR and BS ISO industry codes and best practice
- Full UK car driving licence
Desirable -
- Capability of developing and coaching junior team members
- Knowledge of decarbonisation technologies that includes CCS and Hydrogen
- Experience in regulatory compliance risk management
What we can offer you:
Annual bonus of up to 6% based on personal and company performance
26 days’ holiday plus statutory holidays - option available to buy extra holiday days
Generous double-match pension scheme - for every £1 you put in, we'll add £2 (max company contribution 12%)
Flexible benefit scheme, including private healthcare, dental insurance, technology plans and more
Financial protection with 10x salary death in service and financial support if you're unable to work due to long term illness or injury
Excellent family friendly provisions - maternity/paternity/adoption/shared parental leave
Career progression, professional training and development - including access to LinkedIn Learning
Employee assistance programme offering free confidential professional counselling 24/7
Financial support to help you cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions
