Date: 30 Sep 2024
Location: Warwick, GB, CV34 6DA London, GB, SW1Y 6AL
Company: National Gas
Join us, and help be the energy behind the change
Here at National Gas, we are at the forefront of the UK's move towards sustainable energy and achieving our Net Zero goals by 2050. Whilst our teams work behind the scenes to develop the future of our energy systems, our engineers are out in the field delivering the natural gas demands of today.
About the Role
During this 18-month programme, after your initial induction, you’ll complete three 6-month placements. This will cover all teams within the Commercial business function, so that you can be exposed to different, yet relevant experiences and skillsets that will set you up for your career.
You’ll start within the Innovation team who are working on out of the box ideas of how Hydrogen will support powering the UK in years to come. You will then complete two placements within another area of the business that could be across the UK:
- Asset Engineering / Asset Management
- Construction
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Project Management
- Investment
With the contacts you’ll make and the skills you’ll learn in these areas, you’ll be able to make an educated decision as to which part of National Gas you’d like to continue your career in.
Studies suggest that women tend to apply only if they meet 100% of the criteria. If you resonate with our mission, the role excites you and your skills align, we encourage you to apply.
About You
For you to thrive as an Innovation Engineer, you'll be enthusiastic and eager to learn. A keen interest in the future energy systems and sustainability would be invaluable, as we need individuals who are determined to drive the future of our company and be the energy behind the change.
We celebrate the different experiences our colleagues bring to our organisation, and strongly encourage applicants of all backgrounds to apply.
What you'll need
You’ll need a degree, or related degree in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
To help us understand why you're a great fit for the role, be sure to include any other relevant experience or university modules in your cover letter, particularly those related to sustainability and/or hydrogen.
Our sites are located across the country, so you’ll need to be comfortable with travel and overnight stays from time to time. This also means that ideally, you’ll hold a full driving licence and be comfortable driving between sites.
You'll need to have permanent right to work in the UK for the entirety of this programme, as we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.

We understand the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance and support our employees in achieving it. We encourage all graduates to take ownership of their journey. You'll strive to grow and develop, taking advantage of all that National Gas has to offer.
In return, you’ll receive a range of benefits that reward your great work. Your starting annual salary will be £34,646, plus a bonus scheme and a welcome payment of £2000. You'll receive a generous holiday allowance with the option to buy and sell additional days.
The 'nice to knows'
As part of our Hybrid working approach, your time will be split between office days, site visits and working from home.
You'll start in a large cohort of other graduates and apprentices, where you'll attend an in-person induction in September 2025, fostering strong workplace relationships that will build the foundation of your future networks.
Your next steps...
You'll be offered support and guidance throughout the application process by our Early Careers team. Eligible applications will be reviewed by a human, every step of the way. We encourage you to only apply for one scheme, so please consider this carefully. When reviewing your application, if we feel you might be a good fit for something else, we'll be sure to let you know.
If your online application is successful, you’ll be invited to a virtual solo interview. The final stage is an in-person Assessment Centre at our Warwick Head Office on Monday 2nd December 2024, so you must be available on this date. Support is available towards travel costs if required.
Applications close on Sunday 27th October 2024. Each year, we receive a large volume of applications, so we'd encourage you to apply early.
