Principal Online Simulation Engineer, Warwick (Hybrid) – £63,000 to £80,000 plus benefits

Job Purpose

As a Principal Online Simulation Engineer, you will lead the development, configuration and continuous improvement of our online simulation capability, helping ensure the National Control Centre has the tools and insight needed to support the safe and efficient operation of the gas transmission system. Working across engineering, operations and IT, you’ll play a key role in keeping our simulation tools accurate, resilient and ready for the future.

About the role

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the configuration, deployment and ongoing optimisation of our online simulation tools, ensuring they remain accurate, secure and fit for purpose.
  • Ensure the National Transmission System and connected assets are accurately represented in the model, including planned and unplanned maintenance activity.
  • Work closely with IT teams and stakeholders to maintain system performance, implement updates and support best practice use of simulation tools.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to projects, operational discussions and future modelling developments, helping shape our long-term simulation capability.
  • Build team capability through training, coaching and knowledge sharing across simulation engineers and control room teams.
  • Support resilience and business continuity planning, ensuring the team and systems are operationally ready at all times.

 

About you

You’re passionate about the use of simulation and modelling as decision-making tools for real-world systems. You’re a strong communicator and natural collaborator, able to work effectively with a wide range of technical and operational stakeholders. You bring an analytical mindset and a proactive approach, always looking for ways to improve processes and add value.

 

Key Requirements:

 

  • Strong knowledge of mathematical network modelling, analysis and simulation tools.
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships and deliver outcomes through collaboration.
  • Excellent analytical, numerical and logical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to understand complex technical concepts and communicate them clearly and effectively.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and workstreams.
  • Engineering or technical degree (or equivalent experience), ideally with experience working with simulation tools.
