The SAP Systems Accountant will provide expert capability in the development, integrity and optimisation of SAP s/4Hana financial systems, ensuring the system continues to perform efficiently and reliably, meeting financial and regulatory reporting standards.  You’ll be a senior subject-matter expert, partnering closely with Finance, IT, Procurement, and operational teams to ensure the system fully supports robust financial processes, statutory compliance, digital transformation, and strategic decision-making.

Key accountabilities:

 

  • Act as the senior functional lead for SAP Finance modules and integrations.
  • Own critical system controls, master data governance, and the integrity of all finance modules.
  • Oversee system performance, complex issue resolution, and escalations to IT or external partners.
  • Lead on design, enhancement, and optimisation of end‑to‑end finance processes.
  • Champion automation initiatives and digital tools that streamline operations.
  • Lead major system improvements, including workflow redesign, S/4HANA enhancement packs, and cross-functional process changes.
  • Lead for finance on large‑scale projects (e.g., S/4HANA upgrades, integrations, module rollouts).
  • Develop business cases, gather requirements, create functional specifications, and manage testing cycles.
  • Ensure change control standards and documentation are fully adhered to.
  • Support the delivery of advanced SAP reporting and analytics using Fiori, embedded analytics, or SAP Analytics Cloud.
  • Partner with Finance Business Partners to enhance insight and financial planning capabilities.
  • Support data governance and the development of consistent KPI dashboards.
  • Provide high-level support for complex user issues and escalations.
  • Lead training programmes, produce high-quality guidance, and support capability building in the finance team.
  • Build strong relationships across Finance, IT, Procurement, and strategic partners.
  • Strengthen system financial controls, workflows, and audit trails.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and internal audit requirements.

 

About you:

 

  • Strong experience in an SAP S/4HANA finance systems role, ideally post‑implementation.
  • Deep understanding of financial processes (RTR, PTP, OTC).
  • Proven experience in system changes and improvement projects.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret system behaviour and finance data.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and influence at all levels.
  • Professional accounting qualification (AAT/ACCA/CIMA).
  • Experience of SAP Analytics Cloud, Fiori app configuration, or workflow design.
  • Knowledge of automation tools (RPA, AI-enabled analytics, etc.)
  • Works autonomously, advising senior leaders on system strategy.
  • Leads major cross‑functional system initiatives.
  • Represents Finance in organisation-wide digital transformation programmes.
