Hear from our people

  •             Hannah O.
                Advanced Mechanical Apprenticeship

“As an apprentice at National Gas, I’ve completed technical training and
an HNC in Mechanical Engineering. On-site, I assist with daily
maintenance and project work, including a critical valve gearbox
replacement due to finish this year. My day starts with a team meeting,
followed by preparing tools and ensuring a safe working area. Tasks vary
from pipework and metering to gas leaks and oil changes. What I enjoy
most is the variety – every day brings new challenges, and working with
my team is rewarding. If you’re considering an apprenticeship at National
Gas, go for it! With exciting projects like hydrogen and the energy sector’s
growth, it’s a great time to start your career.”

  •             Barney M.
                Electrical and Instrumentation Advanced Apprenticeship

“As an apprentice at National Gas, my main tasks involve maintaining
electrical assets on the gas compressor station and the wider gas network,
with plenty of fault-finding opportunities. I also assist with mechanical work
when needed, as teamwork is a big part of the role. Each day presents
new challenges. My mornings begin by checking for faults or alarms on the
control room screens, followed by a walk around the station to assess the
plant’s condition. Then, I focus on electrical maintenance and installations
to ensure safe gas transmission across the UK. College is part of the
journey too, where I stay with fellow apprentices, making the experience
more enjoyable. What I enjoy most is the constant problem-solving and
the chance to work with a skilled team. I’m always learning something new.
I highly recommend applying for an apprenticeship with National Gas.
The opportunities for growth and skill development are immense, and
you’ll gain valuable experience across the company.”
