As a Finance apprentice, you'll build a strong grounding in core financial skills while working towards a professional qualification. You'll rotate across areas like transactional accounting, reporting, analysis, and business partnering gaining experience in how finance supports a large, regulated organisation.
Digital, Data and Security
Cyber and technology are central to protecting and powering our critical national infrastructure. These teams keep our systems secure, resilient, and fit for purpose, ensuring gas continues to flow across the UK while enabling smarter, more efficient ways of working. As an apprentice, you’ll build practical skills in cyber security and digital technology, including threat detection, incident response, risk management, and system protection. You’ll gain hands-on experience with software, hardware, data, and digital solutions, using industry-standard tools and real-world systems to confidently tackle security challenges, support operations, and drive continuous improvement across the organisation.
People (HR)
Our HR team looks after our people, supporting recruitment, development, wellbeing, and organisational culture. They make sure National Gas is a great place to work and that colleagues have everything they need to thrive. As an HR apprentice, you’ll gain practical experience across areas like talent acquisition, employee relations, learning and development, reward, and inclusion. Alongside your role, you’ll work towards a recognised HR qualification, helping you build solid foundations for a career centred around people and workplaces.

National Gas Services (NGS) keeps gas flowing safely across the UK by maintaining and improving the pipelines that homes and businesses rely on every day. As an apprentice at NGS, you’ll be involved in both urgent emergency response work and planned, long-term projects that support and modernise the country’s energy network. You’ll gain hands-on experience across a wide range of activities, from diagnosing and repairing real pipeline issues to supporting essential maintenance and upgrade programmes. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to future-focused initiatives, such as developing alternative energy solutions like hydrogen, helping to build a more sustainable and resilient energy system for the UK.
Operations
Our Operations - Regional Teams (Scotland & North, West, East) are spread across regions so they’re close to the communities and assets they support. They’re responsible for keeping the gas network running safely and reliably every single day. This includes maintaining equipment, responding to issues, inspecting sites, and ensuring our infrastructure is ready for the future. As an apprentice in Operations, you’ll train to become a skilled technician by learning from experts out in the field. You’ll gain hands on experience in areas like mechanical engineering, electrical maintenance, control and instrumentation, and pipework.
Major Programmes
Our Major Programmes team delivers some of the largest and most exciting projects across our network. These programmes involve upgrading essential assets, building new infrastructure, and driving forward innovations that help us move towards a cleaner, more reliable energy future. The work is fast paced, and incredibly impactful, bringing together experts from across engineering, project delivery, planning, and specialist on site teams. Joining as an apprentice you’ll spend time learning from experienced teams out in the field, gaining practical skills, and seeing how major upgrades and new installations are delivered from the ground up.
