About the role

As a C&I Rotating Machinery Engineer for the East region, you'll help ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the gas turbines, compressors and control systems that support the National Gas Transmission Network. Providing specialist technical expertise across critical rotating assets, you'll play a key role in maintaining network resilience and asset performance across one of our most strategically important regions.

Why this role matters

The East region maintains seven compressor stations across Peterborough, Cambridge, Chelmsford, Diss, King's Lynn and Hatton, and is home to the Bacton North Sea Gas Terminal. Together, these assets play a vital role in keeping gas flowing safely and reliably across the UK.

This role exists to provide technical leadership and support for the control, instrumentation and protection systems that keep these assets operating at their best. Your expertise will help improve reliability, resolve complex technical issues and support the delivery of major maintenance and improvement programmes.

What you'll be doing

  • Provide specialist engineering support for gas turbines, compressors and associated control and instrumentation systems
  • Diagnose and resolve complex faults using control system analysis, performance trending and condition monitoring data
  • Maintain and optimise PLC, SCADA, machine protection and safety systems to improve asset reliability and performance
  • Support major maintenance, outages and overhaul programmes across the East region
  • Work with OEMs and project teams to deliver upgrades, modifications and performance improvements
  • Review asset performance and maintenance strategies to drive continuous improvement and long-term reliability
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, statutory requirements and industry best practice

What you'll bring

This role would suit someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working closely with operational teams and making a tangible impact on the performance of critical infrastructure.

Essential
  • HNC/HND, degree, or equivalent, in electrical engineering, control & instrumentation engineering, or a related discipline
  • Experience working with gas turbines and/or gas compressors within the energy, oil and gas, or process industries
  • Strong knowledge of machine protection systems and machinery fault diagnosis
  • Experience with PLC, SCADA and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
  • Working knowledge of control systems such as PCS7, Allen Bradley PLC5, ControlLogix, Solar TT4 or SLC500
  • Experience supporting live operational sites, maintenance activities and outage delivery
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable
  • Functional Safety training or certification
  • Experience with anti-surge control systems
  • Experience working with OEM control packages
  • Experience developing technical scopes for rotating machinery overhauls
  • Knowledge of reliability and asset performance improvement methodologies
