National Gas is responsible for operating and maintaining Britain's national gas transmission network, helping to keep the lights on, businesses running and homes warm.

We manage the critical infrastructure that safely and reliably transports gas across Great Britain, supporting the energy security that millions of people depend on every day.

While delivering for Britain today, we're also preparing for tomorrow. Through innovation, investment and the development of future energy infrastructure, we're helping to create a cleaner and more sustainable energy system for generations to come.

As a graduate, you'll be given meaningful responsibility from the start, supported to develop professionally, and empowered to contribute to projects that have a real impact on the nation's energy future. Whether you're solving complex challenges, driving innovation or delivering essential services, you'll play an important role in an organisation with genuine purpose.

Join us and help shape the future of energy.

About the Role

Join our Planning & Performance team in the East Region and help us make better use of data to improve the way we work. You'll work closely with colleagues across the business, using data and digital tools to support decision-making, improve processes and provide valuable insights that help drive performance.

As a Data & Insights Graduate, you'll gain hands-on experience working with data, reporting tools and digital technologies. You'll support the creation of dashboards and reports, help maintain accurate data, and contribute to projects that improve how information is used across the region.

Day-to-day, you could be:

•    Helping to create and improve dashboards and reports.
•    Reviewing data to identify trends, patterns and opportunities for improvement.
•    Checking and maintaining the quality of data used by the business.
•    Supporting colleagues to make the best use of digital tools and technologies.
•    Gathering feedback from users and helping improve existing processes.
•    Working with teams across the business to understand challenges and explore data-driven solutions.

Throughout the programme, you'll build a strong foundation in data analysis, reporting, digital tools and continuous improvement. You'll develop problem-solving, communication and stakeholder management skills while learning how data can support better decisions and improve business performance.

About You

We're looking for someone who is curious, motivated and excited by the potential of data and technology. You don't need to be an expert from day one, but you should enjoy solving problems, learning new skills and finding better ways of doing things.

You'll be someone who:

•    Enjoys working with data and turning information into useful insights.
•    Pays attention to detail and takes pride in producing high-quality work.
•    Likes solving problems and exploring ways to improve processes.
•    Is comfortable learning new technologies and tools.
•    Works well with others and can communicate ideas clearly.
•    Takes ownership of their work and is keen to learn from new experiences.

A standout candidate will be naturally inquisitive, enjoy spotting patterns in information and be enthusiastic about using data and technology to make a difference. They'll be organised, proactive and eager to develop both their technical and professional skills.

We celebrate the different experiences our colleagues bring to our organisation and strongly encourage applicants of all backgrounds to apply.

What you'll need

You'll hold or be on track to achieve a degree in a subject that develops strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Suitable degree disciplines include:

•    Data Science
•    Mathematics
•    Statistics
•    Computer Science
•    Economics
•    Engineering
•    Or another numerate or analytical subject

We're interested in your potential and transferable skills as much as your academic background. A strong application may include examples of:

•    Working with data or numerical information.
•    Using evidence to solve problems or make recommendations.
•    Completing analytical projects, coursework or research.
•    Collaborating with others to achieve a common goal.
•    Using Excel or other tools to organise, analyse or present information.

An interest in data, reporting, technology and continuous improvement will help you succeed in this role. Experience with tools such as Power BI, Power Apps or Copilot is beneficial but not essential, as you'll have the opportunity to develop these skills throughout the programme.

A good application will include a cover letter explaining why this role interests you and highlighting any relevant university projects, modules, work experience or extracurricular activities that demonstrate your skills and potential.

Studies suggest that women tend to apply only if they meet 100% of the criteria. If you resonate with our mission, the role excites you and your skills align, we encourage you to apply.

The Essentials

This is an 18-month fixed-term graduate programme. You must have the right to work in the UK for the duration of the programme.

You will not need to have driving licence or personal vehicle to be considered for this role.

Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held. Following a successful online application, you'll be invited to complete an online assessment. Candidates who progress to the next stage will then be invited to a virtual solo interview. The final stage of the process is an in-person Assessment Centre in December or January at our Peterborough Office. We'll share further details closer to the time, including the date and location.
