Join National Gas and help be the energy behind the change.

National Gas is responsible for operating and maintaining Britain's national gas transmission network, helping to keep the lights on, businesses running and homes warm.

We manage the critical infrastructure that safely and reliably transport gas across Great Britain, supporting the energy security that millions of people depend on every day.

While delivering for Britain today, we're also preparing for tomorrow. Through innovation, investment and the development of future energy infrastructure, we're helping to create a cleaner and more sustainable energy system for generations to come.

As a graduate, you'll be given meaningful responsibility from the start, supported to develop professionally, and empowered to contribute to projects that have a real impact on the nation's energy future. Whether you're solving complex challenges, driving innovation or delivering essential services, you'll play an important role in an organisation with genuine purpose.

Join us and help shape the future of energy.

About the Role

Join our Supply Chain team in the West Region and help ensure National Gas has the goods and services needed to keep Britain's energy network running safely and reliably. You'll work with colleagues from across the business and build an understanding of how we buy products, manage suppliers and make commercial decisions that support our operations.

As a Supply Chain Buyer Graduate, you'll gain hands-on experience across a wide range of buying and supply chain activities. You'll work closely with experienced buyers and stakeholders, learning how suppliers are selected, how purchasing decisions are made and how strong supplier relationships help deliver value for the business.

Day-to-day, you could be:

•    Supporting the process of finding and working with suppliers.
•    Helping colleagues understand and define their requirements.
•    Gathering and reviewing information to support purchasing decisions.
•    Working with suppliers to obtain information, quotes and updates.
•    Using systems and data to track activities and maintain accurate records.
•    Supporting projects and activities across the wider Supply Chain team.

Throughout the programme, you'll develop an understanding of purchasing, supplier management, commercial decision-making and stakeholder engagement. You'll build strong communication, analytical and organisational skills while learning how supply chain teams support the delivery of critical infrastructure projects and services.

About You

We're looking for someone who is curious, organised and eager to learn. You don't need to be an expert from day one, but you should enjoy solving problems, building relationships and working with information to support decisions.

You'll be someone who:

•    Enjoys working with people and building positive relationships.
•    Has strong organisational skills and pays attention to detail.
•    Is comfortable working with information and data.
•    Communicates clearly and professionally.
•    Remains calm when managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
•    Takes ownership of their work and is keen to learn new skills.

A standout candidate will be commercially aware, proactive and genuinely interested in how organisations source goods and services. You'll enjoy working with information, asking questions and finding practical solutions to challenges.

We celebrate the different experiences our colleagues bring to our organisation and strongly encourage applicants of all backgrounds to apply.

What you'll need

You'll hold, or be on track to achieve a degree in a relevant subject. Suitable degree disciplines include:

•    Supply Chain Management
•    Procurement
•    Contract Management
•    Business Studies
•    Commercial Management
•    Mathematics
•    Or another related discipline

We're interested in your potential and transferable skills as much as your academic background. A strong application might include examples of:

•    Using data or information to solve problems.
•    Organising projects, coursework or group activities.
•    Working collaboratively to achieve shared goals.
•    Building relationships with different people.
•    Using Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint to analyse or present information.

Previous work experience, placements or internships would be beneficial but are not essential. What matters most is your enthusiasm to learn, your commercial awareness and your interest in developing a career in Supply Chain and Procurement.

A good application will include a cover letter to help us understand why you're a great fit for the role. Be sure to include any other relevant experience or university modules.

Studies suggest that women tend to apply only if they meet 100% of the criteria. If you resonate with our mission, the role excites you and your skills align, we encourage you to apply.

You will not need to have driving licence or personal vehicle to be considered for this role.

Following a successful online application, you'll be invited to complete an online assessment. Candidates who progress to the next stage will then be invited to a virtual solo interview.
