Head of Engineering - Livingston / Aberdeen - £72,000 to £105,000

About the role

As Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for ensuring technical excellence and safety assurance across the Scotland and North of England region.

 

A key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will ensure the integrity of our assets are maintained, and enable technical engineering to support high-quality, cost-effective project delivery across a significant infrastructure portfolio. 

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Technical & Safety Leadership: Build and maintain technical and safety competence within the region; ensure full compliance with SHE requirements and regulations. 
  • Management of Change: Lead the engineering change processes for modifications and new projects, ensuring accurate records and drawings. 
  • Regulatory Compliance: Manage and approve authorisations under relevant regulations (e.g., EL/96, DSEAR). 
  • Quality Assurance: Define and oversee QA requirements for projects and assets, providing insight and trending to drive improvement. 
  • Safety Engineering: Deliver local HAZID and HAZOP capability to ensure outputs meet time, cost and quality expectations. 
  • Strategic Planning: Align engineering activities with the five-year regulatory delivery plan and future regulatory periods. 
  • Financial Oversight: Manage a £300M+ budget, ensuring cost optimisation and resource allocation. 
  • Collaboration & Innovation: Work with Central Engineering and Asset Management Directorates to embed digital tools, drive innovation and continuous improvement. 

What we are looking for

  • Degree in engineering or related discipline; Chartered (or equivalent) and member of a relevant professional body. 
  • Significant engineering leadership experience with delivery of large‑scale infrastructure, ideally in energy/utilities. 
  • Deep knowledge of engineering principles, project management methodologies, and regulatory compliance in the energy sector. 
  • Proven leadership of multi‑disciplinary teams, with a track record of building technical and safety competence. 
  • Strong financial acumen managing substantial budgets, forecasting and cost control. 
  • Fluency with digital tools for engineering design and project management; passionate about continuous improvement. 
  • Evidenced commitment to safety, quality and sustainability, with hands‑on QA and change management experience.
