About us

We play a vital role in shaping the future of the UK’s energy infrastructure. Our teams support the safe, reliable and sustainable operation of critical national systems—delivering high‑impact programmes that keep energy flowing and enable a lower‑carbon future.

As part of our investment function, you’ll help drive the decisions and programmes that shape the next generation of our network. If you want to contribute to work that genuinely moves the country forward, this is the place to do it.

About the role

As an Investment Sponsor, you’ll play a pivotal role in overseeing the investment lifecycle for a regional theme of capital projects. You’ll ensure that each project is properly initiated, developed, sponsored and delivered through to closure supporting regulatory obligations, business priorities, and long‑term strategic objectives.

You will shape and maintain medium‑term investment plans, building strong relationships with delivery teams and key stakeholders. Your insight will help align funding, strategy and operational needs, ensuring that each investment creates maximum value.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Develop and optimise the RIIO‑3 medium‑term investment plan for a regional investment theme.
  • Sponsor capital projects throughout the full investment lifecycle—from initiation and scoping to execution and close‑out.
  • Lead change management across investment plans to mitigate risk, manage uncertainty, and safeguard business/regulatory objectives.
  • Resolve complex investment conflicts using data‑driven analysis and effective stakeholder collaboration.
  • Work closely with finance, central investment teams and major programmes to ensure alignment of decisions and resource allocations.
  • Monitor and present performance, risks and recommendations to senior stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Provide regulatory reporting, including performance outcomes and future delivery forecasts.
  • Maintain consistent investment planning standards to support a unified portfolio view across the organisation.

About you

You’re an analytical, collaborative and strategic thinker who enjoys tackling complex problems and making a measurable impact. You’re confident navigating large datasets, managing competing priorities, and shaping programmes that deliver long‑lasting value.

You’ll bring:

  • Proven experience in investment portfolio planning, financial analysis and risk management.
  • Strong numerical ability and a data‑driven mindset.
  • A degree (or equivalent experience) in a numerical or analytical discipline.
  • Experience in financial reporting and advanced data analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence and build relationships across teams.
  • A proactive, adaptable approach to managing evolving priorities.

It’s a bonus if you also have:

  • Experience with asset investment tools (e.g., Copperleaf).
  • Knowledge of utility network infrastructure or gas transmission systems.
  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks such as RIIO.
