About the role
Join National Gas as our Net Zero Stakeholder & Communications Adviser and help drive some of the UK’s most ambitious hydrogen and decarbonisation projects. This is your chance to play a pivotal role in securing Britain’s energy and supporting the transition to a cleaner, greener future.
As the Net Zero Stakeholder & Communications Adviser, you’ll be at the heart of major infrastructure projects that matter not just to us, but to communities, businesses, and the future of energy in Britain. You’ll help deliver clear, positive communications and build trusted relationships with stakeholders, ensuring our projects are understood, supported, and successful.
What you'll be doing
- Shaping and delivering communications and engagement strategies for Net Zero projects, including public consultations.
- Developing and executing high impact communications, meaningful stakeholder engagement and statutory consultations.
- Ensuring messaging is consistent and aligned with National Gas’s broader communications framework.
- Producing high-quality content, from press releases to digital campaigns, and overseeing agency partners.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with media, industry partners, regulators, government agencies, residents, businesses, charities, and community groups.
- Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of communications and engagement activities, using data to drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborating with project teams across engineering, consents, lands, procurement, and legal.
- Promoting safety, security, and wellbeing within the team.
About you
You’re a natural communicator who thrives on building relationships and influencing others. Your proactive, collaborative approach and ability to stay calm under pressure will set you up for success in this fast-paced, high-impact role.
Key requirements & experience
Essential:
- Proven experience within energy, infrastructure, construction or similar industries on major projects.
- Strong understanding of corporate/project communications, community engagement, public affairs, media relations, and public consultation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a knack for crafting engaging narratives.
- Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach, able to balance day-to-day tasks with long-term planning.
- Confident managing senior stakeholder relationships and acting as a trusted advisor.
- Ability to manage crisis communications and work under pressure.
- Passion for energy and commitment to sustainability.
- Solid project management skills, including time, scope, procurement, and external resource management.
- Experience delivering complex programmes and managing project costs.
- Ability to identify and manage risk, and communicate complex matters clearly.
- Strong presentation skills, with experience presenting to large or challenging audiences.
- Collaborative team player, able to represent communications at senior levels.
- Thorough knowledge of Scottish planning consents process.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable:
- Coming from a regulated industry or communications agency background is advantageous.
