Technician Control & Instrumentation

Aberdeen

£44,642 – £52,519 + OTE + up to 6% annual bonus

About the role

We’re recruiting for an Operations Technician (Control & Instrumentation bias) to join our team at Aberdeen, one of the UK’s most critical energy compressor stations.

This is a unique, future-focused role combining hands-on engineering expertise with a growing responsibility in operational technology (OT) cyber security. Funded through cyber programmes, the position plays a key role in ensuring both the performance and protection of critical infrastructure.

You’ll operate across multiple disciplines, supporting site reliability while contributing to the evolving cyber security landscape within a highly regulated environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Maintain, repair and optimise control and instrumentation systems and process plant equipment
  • Carry out fault finding, diagnostics and preventative maintenance to ensure maximum asset reliability
  • Support installation, testing and commissioning of plant upgrades and modifications
  • Contribute to cyber security controls within OT systems, helping maintain compliance and reduce risk
  • Assist in cyber audits, documentation and security assurance activities
  • Work within safe systems of work, including permits, isolations and compliance procedures
  • Support site projects and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Occasionally support out-of-hours work, overtime or site response activities when required

About you

You’re a hands-on, adaptable technician who enjoys variety and thrives in an environment where no two days are the same.

You’re just as comfortable working on instrumentation and plant systems as you are learning and contributing to cyber-related activities. You can manage multiple priorities, pick up tasks quickly, and see them through with minimal supervision.

You’re organised, proactive, and bring a down-to-earth, team-focused approach to your work.

Key Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience in Control & Instrumentation, Electrical, or Operational Technology environments
  • Strong background in maintenance, fault finding, and plant operations within oil & gas or a similar process industry
  • Understanding of safe systems of work and hazardous area operations
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently
  • Awareness or interest in industrial cyber security and control system protection
  • Time-served apprenticeship and Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Experience with SCADA, DCS or industrial control systems
  • Knowledge of OT/ICS cyber frameworks (e.g. IEC 62443)
  • COMPEX or hazardous area certifications
  • Experience working in regulated, safety-critical or high-hazard environments
  • Multi-disciplined experience across engineering and cyber or control systems

What we can offer you

  • Competitive salary: £44,642 – £52,519
  • Overtime earning potential (OTE) to enhance your overall package
  • Annual bonus of up to 6% based on personal and company performance
  • 26 days’ holiday + statutory leave, with the option to buy more
  • Double-match pension – for every £1 you contribute, we’ll add £2 (up to 12%)
  • Flexible benefits including private healthcare, dental cover, travel insurance, and tech schemes
  • 10x salary life assurance
  • Financial protection in case of long-term illness or injury
  • Enhanced family-friendly policies, including parental leave
  • Access to a 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme
  • Support for professional memberships
  • Ongoing training, development, and career progression opportunities across engineering and cyber disciplines
