Assistant Mechanical Engineer - Remote with travel - Up to £55,000

About the role:

We’re looking for an Assistant Mechanical Engineer to join our team and play a key role in supporting the safe operation and management of pressure systems connected to the National Transmission System. Working alongside experienced Mechanical Engineers, you’ll help maintain compliance with the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR) and ensure the continued integrity of our assets.

 

In this varied and hands-on role, you’ll be involved in updating written schemes of examination, reviewing inspection results, and following up on audit actions to ensure high standards are met. You’ll also work closely with customers to provide technical information around demarcation points and safe operating limits. A key part of your role will be monitoring the completion of lifting equipment inspections, resolving any issues with inspection providers or our Operations Team to keep everything running smoothly. You’ll manage the pipework vibration programme, ensuring monitoring is completed on time, reviewing reports, raising, and tracking defects, and supporting the completion of remedial work.

Travel will be part of the job – we have a national portfolio. On average, you'll spend around 40% of your working week travelling and working on sites/attending meetings to support in the delivery of the projects with home working in-between. Therefore, it’s essential you hold a full UK driving licence. 

What we're looking for:

Essential - 

  • HND/HNC (or equivalent) in mechanical engineering
  • Experience in resolving technical issues
  • Full UK car driving licence

 

Desirable - 

  • Degree (or equivalent) in mechanical engineering
  • Awareness and understanding of the requirements of LOLER and PSSR2000
  • Experience in an operational/engineering capacity in  a gas transmission or high hazard environment
