As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you’ll provide contractual support for construction projects across the UK’s National Transmission System. From control system upgrades and asset decommissioning to new builds and the transition to hydrogen, your work will be pivotal to ensuring the flow of gas and the future of clean energy.

What you'll do:

 

COST CONTROL AND REPORTING

 

  • Support and co-ordinate the preparation of, and help review budget estimates including risk & contingency allowance at all stages of the project lifecycle
  • Assist with the commercial processes (incl. detailed cost reports) and internal governance requirements, ensuring they are adhered to at all stages of the project lifecycle
  • Help review entitlement and support assessing the time and cost impact of compensation events
  • Lead on the payment application process with the support of a Quantity Surveyor
  • With a Value for Money mindset, assist with tender return evaluations, tender negotiations, and Contract Award processes

 

CONTRACT MANAGEMENT

 

  • Ensure due diligence is consistent, with assurance & audit of all Contractor costs for your assigned projects
  • Drive contract administration adherence, ensuring all notices are issued and replied to within the contract timeframes, ensuring contractual risks are tracked and escalated where required
  • Provide analysis of compensation events, and support the process of escalation where required 
  • Attending project related meetings to support the Project Team in commercial and contractual matters

 

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

 

  • Working with both internal & external stakeholders to support National Gas on regulator requirements
  • Assisting in commercial lessons learned and stakeholder interfaces on projects

 

What We’re Looking For:

 

What we do isn’t just important – it’s critical. That’s why we look to recruit experts in their field. In this case, we’re looking for someone who has most of the below:

  • Experience of providing cost assurance of projects carried out under NEC3 or NEC4 Contracts (preferably options A, C & E)
  • Experience in contract management in a Construction environment
  • Exposure to risk management, cash flow forecasting, and supply chain management
  • Commercial acumen and reporting system knowledge
  • Experience with contract management, payment applications, early warning notices and compensation events
  • Knowledge of the use of Contract Management Systems (such as FastDraft) 
  • Awareness of earned value management and monitoring cost performance
  • Knowledge of the gas transmission system desirable, but not essential
  • A full UK driving license
  • Ability to attend site regularly – 3 days a week during key stages of work
  • Flexibility to support projects across other regions when required
