About the role:

We’re looking for a technically skilled problem solver who thrives on tackling complex challenges and someone who others trust to deliver reliable, high-quality solutions.

This role is based at Bacton which is an upper tier COMAH site meaning the highest standards and all measures necessary are expected to be maintained.

As an Instrumentation Operations Technician, you'll take on the installation, inspection, commissioning, operation, repair, and maintenance of various equipment, as well as other operational duties at Bacton Gas Terminal.

Working as part of our Operations Team, you'll support project work as required and the commissioning of new assets on the system. You'll oversee and inspect work carried out by others.

This role will help protect and maintain the high-pressure systems at one of our National Gas terminals. These sites are the engines that take the gas from offshore and introduce it into our National Transmission System straight to our customers.

This is a hands-on, technically demanding role that requires a strong background in instrumentation or control systems, a commitment to safety and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You’ll also oversee contractor activities to ensure instrumentation and safety standards are upheld.

You'll need to live around 40-50 miles (approx. 1 hour) from the Bacton site and be able to be on site 5 days a week. You may also be required to participate in a standby rota 1 week in every 4 or 5, dealing with various faults for which you will get additional compensation for.

If you’re ready to make a meaningful impact in the energy sector and work on some of the UK’s most critical infrastructure, this could be the role for you.

What we're looking for:

Essential -

  • Time served apprenticeship (or other recognised training scheme) in an instrumentation or a control systems discipline
  • BTEC National Certificate (or equivalent City & Guilds, NVQ/SVQ Level 3) in an instrumentation or a control systems discipline
  • Worked in industries including (but not limited to) FMCG, the broader utilities, military or aviation
  • Full UK car driving licence

Desirable -

  • Possess an in date certificate in Compex EX01-04 Hazardous Equipment
  • Appreciation of systems and equipment associated with other engineering disciplines within the oil and gas (or other similar process) industry

What we can offer you:

Annual bonus of up to 6% based on personal and company performance
26 days’ holiday plus statutory holidays - option available to buy extra holiday days
Access to a pool or liveried vehicle
Paid overtime
Generous double-match pension scheme - for every £1 you put in, we'll add £2 (max company contribution 12%)
Flexible benefit scheme, including private healthcare, dental insurance, technology plans and more
Financial protection with 10x salary death in service and financial support if you're unable to work due to long term illness or injury
Excellent family friendly provisions - maternity/paternity/adoption/shared parental leave
Career progression, professional training and development - including access to LinkedIn Learning
Employee assistance programme offering free confidential professional counselling 24/7
Financial support to help you cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions
