£62,000 to £80,000 plus up to 15% bonus and company car

This role consists of three days working in the Ambergate office and two days working remotely or from other sites across the UK.

About the role

A Commercial Manager is responsible for leading and managing the commercial team, developing and implementing commercial strategies, and overseeing the drafting, negotiation, and management of high-value and complex contracts with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors. You'll ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, monitor contract performance, and manage financial aspects, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading and managing the commercial team, acting as a coach and mentor while fostering a positive and collaborative environment.
  • Overseeing the drafting, negotiation, and management of contracts with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and company policies.
  • Developing and managing project budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.
  • Identifying, assessing, and managing commercial risks associated with projects; implement risk mitigation strategies and conduct regular risk assessments.
  • Overseeing procurement activities to ensure cost-effective purchasing of materials and services.
  • Developing and maintaining commercial performance metrics and KPIs; prepare and present regular performance reports to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Communicating and negotiating with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders; building and maintaining strong relationships and ensuring clear communication of commercial terms and project requirements.

About you

You'll bring exceptional leadership and commercial expertise to the role. You'll inspire and develop your team, foster collaboration, and maintain strong stakeholder relationships. You'll be proactive in identifying risks, driving efficiencies, and ensuring compliance across all commercial activities. Your ability to manage complex contracts and financial performance will be key to success.

Key requirements & experience

  • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject such as quantity surveying and commercial management
  • Proven experience in the utilities industry with a deep understanding of its challenges and opportunities
  • Strong background in portfolio commercial management, with the ability to manage complex contracts and relationships effectively
  • NEC Two Stage Contract experience
  • Expertise in NEC3 and NEC4 contracts, particularly options A, C & E
  • Exceptional leadership skills, including previous experience managing and developing large teams
  • Ability to foster a culture of openness, trust, and collaboration
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, driving innovation and efficiencies across the portfolio
  • Full UK car driving licence
  • Desirable: RICS Chartered Member (MRICS), APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ), APM Project Management Professional (PPQ), Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS), NCMA Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM)
