About the role

Join National Gas Services (NGS) as a Craftsperson and help keep critical gas infrastructure operating safely and reliably across the UK and Ireland. You'll be part of a specialist field team delivering maintenance, repair, inspection, and emergency response services that support customers and the wider energy network.

Why this role matters

This is an exciting time to join NGS. As we continue to invest in our specialist services and capabilities, we're supporting customers with increasingly complex infrastructure challenges across the gas network.

You'll play a hands-on role in maintaining vital assets, responding to emergencies, and developing specialist skills that help keep energy flowing safely and reliably.

What you'll be doing

  • Supporting specialist activities including under-pressure drilling, flow stopping, valve repair, recompression, testing, and in-line inspection
  • Delivering maintenance and repair work that helps keep gas networks operating safely and efficiently
  • Leading jet washing, cleaning, and decontamination activities on gas assets and inspection equipment
  • Preparing and maintaining tools, vehicles, materials, and specialist equipment for field operations
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely and in line with industry and National Gas standards
  • Recording operational information, materials, and additional works accurately
  • Taking part in the standby rota, supporting emergency pipeline repair services

What you'll bring

This role would suit someone who enjoys practical engineering work, likes working outdoors and as part of a team, and wants to build specialist skills in a growing area of the energy industry.

Essential
  • Experience in operational maintenance, repair, or mechanical engineering
  • A mechanical engineering background and practical problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of safe working practices within pipeline, pressure system, or gas-related environments
  • Ability to use computer systems to access and record operational information
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a mechanical, gas, or engineering discipline, or a completed apprenticeship
  • A strong commitment to safety and high-quality work
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to obtain HGV licence

Desirable
  • Experience working on pressure systems above 7 bar
  • Knowledge of gas transmission or distribution networks
  • Experience in under-pressure drilling, flow stopping, recompression, pipe fitting, in-line inspection, or pressure system inspection
  • Knowledge of National Gas or industry standards and procedures
