Location: West region (Hub: Bristol)

Working pattern: Hybrid, with a minimum of 3 days a week in the office/on site

Travel: Regular travel within the region, including the Bristol hub

Location requirement: Based within the West region and within reasonable travelling distance of operational site

About the role

Help deliver projects that support the safe, reliable operation of critical energy infrastructure across the West Region.

 

As a Managing Quantity Surveyor, you'll lead the commercial management of a diverse project portfolio, providing expert oversight, driving value, and helping ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and within budget.

You'll work closely with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders to make informed decisions, influence key commercial strategies, and create long-term value. You'll also play an important role in developing people, improving ways of working, and strengthening commercial capability across the region.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead commercial management across a portfolio of construction and infrastructure projects
  • Provide expert commercial advice and support to Project Managers and quantity surveying teams
  • Oversee contract administration and ensure compliance with NEC contractual requirements
  • Monitor project finances, validate payment applications, and maintain accurate cost control
  • Drive effective risk management and support robust commercial decision-making
  • Lead tender evaluation and commercial negotiations to secure the best outcomes for National Gas
  • Support, mentor, and develop quantity surveyors while promoting continuous improvement across the team

What you’ll bring

This role would suit someone who enjoys leading complex commercial projects, influencing key decisions, and developing high-performing teams.

 

Essential

  • Significant quantity surveying experience within the utilities, infrastructure, or related sector
  • Strong portfolio commercial management experience across multiple projects or programmes
  • Proven experience working with NEC Two Stage contracting arrangements
  • In-depth knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts, particularly Options A, C, and E
  • Ability to manage complex contractual matters, commercial risks, and stakeholder relationships
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and developing geographically dispersed teams
  • Commitment to driving continuous improvement, collaboration, and commercial excellence
  • Full UK driving licence

 

Desirable

  • MRICS Chartered membership
  • APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ)
  • APM Project Management Professional (PPQ)
  • Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) qualification
  • NCMA Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM) qualification
