Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Technician

Date:  20 Jun 2025
Location:

East Winch, GB, PE32 1HL

Company:  National Gas
Requisition ID:  1770

About the Role

Are you someone who likes to take ownership and make decisions that move things forward? We're a workplace that gives you the flexibility to make that happen. Interested? Read on.

As a Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Technician, you understand that existing systems can often be improved to become more effective, efficient, and safe. In this role, you will represent Gas Transmission Operations in the procurement, engineering, and design of a major capital control system project playing a key part in the delivery of a significant investment into our network.

You will work alongside our construction colleagues and a fellow Electrical & Instrumentation Technician within the zone to ensure the design and build represent the best operational solution for long-term maintenance and performance. This is a long-term project, with delivery expected between 2030 and 2032.

This role has a strong track record of providing excellent development opportunities. In fact, many of our current leadership team have held this role previously. You'll be engaging with multiple stakeholders, gaining in-depth business knowledge, so stakeholder management will be a key part of the selection process.

What You’ll Do:

  • Foster a team culture of safe working practices and compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Act as a role model, providing visible safety leadership to all stakeholders, and identifying best practices and safety initiatives among main works contractors and sub-contractors.
  • Utilise your electrical or instrumentation apprenticeship background to provide technical support to the asset health team, respond to technical queries, and act as an initiator for the G35 modification process.
  • While not essential, a Project Management and/or Process Safety qualification would be advantageous. If you don’t already hold these, we recognise that many of our operations colleagues have the core skills and we’re committed to providing the necessary training.
  • Experience in formal process safety assessments would also be beneficial, especially for your participation in upcoming HAZOP, HAZID, HASCON, and LOPA studies.
  • As a lead on the control system project, you’ll also carry out normal operational duties such as Site Controller, Authorising Engineer, and Competent Person within SCO/91 & 94.
  • You’ll remain hands-on with maintenance activities during the peaks and troughs of the project, which is essential to maintaining your authorised roles and staying close to the assets, ensuring operations are accurately represented

You’ll take part in the duty standby rota and occasional shift work, and you'll oversee and inspect activities carried out by contractors and working parties, ensuring technical and safety compliance at all times.

We currently have two Senior Electrical Operations Technician positions available—one based at Kings Lynn and the other at Diss Compressor.

At National Gas, we take the time to understand what you want to achieve in your role and career. That’s why we encourage conversations about personalised development plans early on. Whether you’re looking to grow within your current position or aiming for a more senior role, we’ll provide the support and tools you need to succeed.

What we can offer

  • Annual bonus of 6% based on personal and company performance
  • 26 days’ holiday plus statutory holidays - option available to buy extra or sell days
