Operations Cyber Engineer - Avonbridge / Aberdeen - £51,529 to £65,000 + Company Car
National Gas is securing Britain’s energy. We transport gas throughout Great Britain, repair and maintain gas pipelines, and manage the meters that allow millions of homes and businesses to access the energy they need. We are the national gas network, providing secure energy to power Britain, achieve net zero, and maintain our industrial competitiveness.
About the role
Are you ready to elevate your engineering career and play a vital role in protecting critical infrastructure?
We’re seeking an Operations Cyber Engineer to lead cyber security and compliance across the Scotland and North of England Region. In this role, you’ll be the regional lead for cyber security, translating national policy into practical, operational-level governance.
You’ll support Technicians maintaining OT systems, resolve defects, and manage operational risks. On-site presence will be key to strengthening our cyber capabilities. You’ll also take ownership of a specific control system, receiving specialist training and becoming the go-to contact for backups, IDS alerts, and upgrades.
This role offers the chance to shape how cyber security is embedded into operations. We’ll support your development with training in both internal protocols and internationally recognised cyber standards, so prior cyber experience is helpful but not essential.
We’re looking for someone with solid Engineering or OT Cyber experience, who understands engineering policy and regulatory compliance. You should be confident working with Permit to Work systems and setting people to work safely. Strong technical leadership, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making are essential.
Another duty aligned to this role is that of being the incident controller during planned and emergency situations which includes participation in a standby rota and in an emergency response acting as duty engineer. It's worth noting, your role in this standby rota is managing call outs and being contactable for escalations not to go on site and resolve.
What we are looking for
You’ll need to be proactive, analytical, and able to make sound decisions under pressure. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are key, along with a curious, solution-focused mindset.
A BTEC Higher National Certificate or equivalent in a relevant discipline is required, and ideally, you’ll be working toward or hold Incorporated Engineer status. A full UK driving licence is essential. Experience on gas sites, with control systems like PLCs or RTUs, or holding an IOSH Managing Safely qualification would be a bonus.
In return, we offer extensive training and development to fill in any gaps you might have. If you’re ready to lead and grow in the evolving world of operational cyber security, we’d love to hear from you.
What we can offer you
- Annual bonus of 6% based on personal and company performance
- Company car
- 26 days’ holiday plus statutory holidays - option available to buy extra or sell days
- Double-match pension scheme - for every £1 you put in, we'll add £2 (max company contribution 12%)
- Opt-In flexible benefit scheme, including salary sacrifice private healthcare, dental insurance, technology plans and more
- Overtime at x1.5 normal and then x2 on Sunday
- Financial protection with 10x salary death in service and financial support if you're unable to work due to long term illness or injury
- Excellent family friendly provisions - maternity/paternity/adoption/surrogacy/shared parental leave
- Career progression, professional training and development – including access to LinkedIn Learning
- Employee assistance programme offering free confidential professional counselling 24/7
- Financial support to help you cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions
