What We Want
As a Health and Safety Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our Gas Transmission operations across the East Region meet all legal and organisational requirements while achieving the highest levels of safety and environmental performance.
You'll work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to enable measurable improvements in health and safety performance, supporting a culture of continuous learning and development throughout the delivery regions.
Your work will involve regular engagement with SHE Specialists, Compliance Engineers, and Process Safety Leads to help embed a robust and consistent health and safety culture across the organisation.
You’ll make sure all staff within regional delivery are properly informed and supported so they can meet their responsibilities confidently and consistently.
This includes championing the correct use of health and safety management systems and helping to align regional practices with overarching company objectives.
In this role, you will support the Regional SHE Compliance Manager in developing and executing a strategic plan to drive risk-based improvements.
You'll provide expert advice on all aspects of health and safety, ensuring key safety performance indicators are kept up to date and form part of meaningful discussions at management meetings.
You will also help communicate any changes to safety working practices across the region, ensuring clarity, consistency, and compliance at every level.
What You'll Do
Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for delivering a risk-based programme of coaching and support, ensuring teams understand how to apply health and safety systems effectively while continuously evaluating their impact.
You’ll work closely with managers during incident investigations, providing guidance that helps get to the root cause and inform future risk mitigation strategies. You will also take the lead in identifying, eliminating or reducing significant hazards, using your technical knowledge to deliver practical solutions that enhance safety outcomes.
You’ll support assurance activities that monitor compliance and uncover gaps that need to be addressed. Your role will involve helping to lead the delivery of technical strategies aimed at continuous improvement, working alongside senior leadership to ensure time, cost, and quality objectives are achieved.
In everything you do, from risk management to stakeholder communication, your goal will be to elevate the standard of health and safety within a complex and high-hazard operational environment.
To thrive in this position, you’ll need strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, communicate, and develop effective working relationships at all levels. You should bring experience in operational or project environments and be confident in managing H&S systems and audit processes.
A solid understanding of relevant legislation is essential, and while a NEBOSH certificate is required, you should either hold or be working towards a NEBOSH diploma. Experience with CDM or construction environments would be a distinct advantage, and a full UK driving licence is essential.
