About the Role

We have 2 Craftsperson roles available.

As a Craftsperson, you will be part of a team delivering a range of specialist services including:

  • Under pressure drilling and flow stopping
  • Pressure testing and pipeline inspection
  • Mechanical maintenance and repair across all pressure ranges
  • Work on above-ground installations and compressor stations


You will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of both the National Transmission System and other gas distribution networks, ensuring safe and efficient operations.

What We’re Looking For

We understand that not everyone will meet every requirement, and we welcome applicants with transferable skills and a strong willingness to learn. Ideally, you will have:

  • Practical experience in mechanical pipeline or gas work (e.g. main laying, pressure systems, damage assessment)
  • Familiarity with under pressure drilling or flow stopping
  • The ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • Experience working within Safe Systems of Work, including risk assessments and method statements
  • Competence in using digital systems for logging work and accessing information
  • A full, valid UK driving licence
  • A recognised apprenticeship or equivalent qualification (e.g. BTEC National Certificate, City & Guilds NVQ/SVQ Level 3) in a mechanical or related discipline is desirable, though equivalent industry experience will also be considered.

 

Once fully trained, you will be expected to:

  • Participate in the NGS Standby Rota to support emergency pipeline repairs (CEME)
  • Travel to various sites across the UK and attend training courses as required
  • Ensure all tools, vehicles, and equipment are maintained and compliant with safety standards
  • Support depot-based activities, including safety inspections and technical development
