About us:

We transport gas throughout Great Britain, repair and maintain gas pipelines, and manage the meters that allow millions of homes and businesses to access the energy they need. We are the national gas network, providing secure energy to power Britain, achieve net zero, and maintain our industrial competitiveness.

About the Role:

In this role, you'll help plan and prioritise the development of technical training materials created by the Academy. You'll make sure these are delivered on time and meet the needs of GT customers, ensuring they are practical and effective.

You’ll also manage budgets and review business needs, providing well-informed recommendations—based on risks and opportunities—to the Competence Governing Group (CGG).

Additionally, you’ll support the ongoing development of our Safety Technical Competency (STC) framework and help maintain our long-term strategy for managing skills and competence across the business.

What You'll be doing:

  • Work with Experts: Coordinate with subject matter experts to develop and review technical training courses. Make sure the Academy’s training options stay relevant and meet business and safety standards.
  • Manage Delivery: Oversee the rollout of new and updated training courses, keeping them within budget and on schedule. Assess risks and prioritise based on business needs.
  • Plan Ahead: Spot future training needs—such as new equipment, changes in regulations, or updated processes—and bring them forward for review and approval.
  • Shape How Training Is Delivered: Recommend the best format for training (e.g. classroom, online, or blended learning) based on what works best for the business.
  • Keep Systems Up to Date: Ensure training records and competence systems are accurate and maintained. Help resolve any system issues and escalate when needed.
  • Communicate Clearly: Share updates with key stakeholders about new courses, changes to existing ones, or courses being retired. Explain how these changes support business needs and close skills gaps.
  • Improve Training Quality: Review feedback from training sessions and suggest improvements to keep content current and effective. Present recommendations to the Competence Governing Group.

Manage Information Responsibly: Take care of day-to-day information management, ensuring data is accurate, secure, and meets quality standards. Identify areas for improvement and set up processes to maintain them

About You:

You’re a proactive and organised professional with a passion for developing high-quality technical training. You enjoy working with subject matter experts and stakeholders to create learning experiences that are practical, relevant, and aligned with business needs.

You have strong project management skills and can confidently oversee the development and delivery of training products—keeping things on track, within budget, and responsive to changing priorities. You’re comfortable assessing risks, managing performance, and making informed recommendations that support strategic goals.

You’re forward-thinking and able to anticipate future training needs, whether driven by new technology, equipment, or changes in regulations. You understand the importance of choosing the right delivery method—whether classroom-based or digital—and can adapt your approach to suit different audiences.

You’re detail-oriented when it comes to maintaining systems and records, ensuring competence frameworks and training passports are accurate and up to date. You’re also a clear communicator, able to share updates and changes with stakeholders in a way that’s easy to understand and aligned with business priorities.
