Digital Communications Officer – London, hybrid - c£41,000 DOE

The Digital Communications Officer plays a pivotal role in Corporate Affairs, ensuring our key priorities are effectively communicated online with our external audiences.  As a savvy digital communicator, you will enhance our social and digital media presence, delivering compelling, insight-driven content to land our key messages and position our brand as a leading voice in Britain’s energy landscape. You will also play a key role in supporting our emergency communications processes.

About the role:

 

Reporting to the Head of External Communications, the Digital Communications Officer will lead on the planning and delivery of the digital communications that will empower National Gas to deliver on its mission:

 

 

  • Lead the planning, creation, and scheduling of content across existing and emerging social and digital media platforms. Currently focused on LinkedIn, with a strategic ambition to expand into channels such as Instagram, TikTok, X (Twitter), and YouTube to reach broader audiences and support organisational priorities.

 

  • Support the delivery of wider strategic communications campaigns through the development and delivery of creative digital communications plans.

 

 

  • Monitor and report on digital performance metrics (e.g. engagement, reach, click-through rates) across social media and website platforms, usings insights to inform content strategy and stakeholder reporting.

 

  • Build strong relationships across the organisation to proactively source stories, news, and updates

 

  • Oversee the maintenance of the National Gas website, working with IT technical teams, including driving improved SEO performance.

 

  • Provide out-of-hour and crisis communications support as required, including potential participation in an on-call rota, to support our emergency communications obligations.

 

About you:

 

You have proven experience managing multiple corporate social media accounts, including use of content management platforms (e.g. Hootsuite) and experience updating websites (use of CMS platforms is essential).  You’re passionate and highly knowledgeable about the latest social and digital media platform and content trends, with a strong understanding of audience segmentation and tailoring content for different platforms.  Digital evaluation and reporting approaches are also important and the ability to interpret analytics and translate data into actionable insights.  You have impeccable written and oral communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and project management is second nature.  If you have delivered organic and paid for digital campaigns, and/ or design or video editing skills (e.g. Canva), this would be highly advantageous.

  • Location & working pattern: Based in National Gas’ central London St James’s office. Hybrid working: three days a week in the office/ onsite, with Monday and Friday available for home working.
