As our Public Affairs Officer (reporting to the Head of Politics), you will play an instrumental role in our Corporate Affairs function, to influence, develop and deliver effective public affairs activity by engaging with key stakeholders, monitoring political developments, and communicating our policy positions to strengthen our reputation and support policy objectives.

About the role:
- Campaign planning: Plan and execute strategic public affairs campaigns that support National Gas’ wider policy objectives.
- Political engagement: Build and maintain constructive relationships with parliamentarians, government officials, and political stakeholders so that National Gas is recognised as a trusted, expert partner.
- External representation: Represent National Gas at external events, conferences, and meetings – reporting back to colleagues on key insights and implications.
- Event organisation: Organise and deliver events, meetings, and site visits so that National Gas’ reputation is enhanced and policy objectives are advanced.
- Political monitoring: Monitor, analyse and report on political developments across Parliament, the UK Government, and the devolved administrations so that National Gas can anticipate risks and opportunities.
- Political messaging: Draft briefings, letters, and other political communications that convey clear and consistent messages aligned with company priorities.
- Internal collaboration: Work with internal teams to provide insight, political risk analysis, and strategic advice that informs business decisions and supports effective advocacy.
- Industry engagement: Build strong relationships with industry partners, trade associations, and professional bodies to influence debate and ensure National Gas’ positions are well represented.
About you:
You have demonstrable experience in public affairs, preferably within parliament, government, or a public affairs / communications agency, and have strong:
- Political knowledge: Strong knowledge of the UK political landscape, including parliamentary processes, government structures, and policy development.
- Communication skills: Proven track record of analysing complex policy issues and communicating them clearly, both in writing and verbally.
- Organisational skills: Skilled in managing multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholder requests effectively, with strong diligence and attention to detail in planning.
- Teamwork skills: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the business, showing judgement, discretion, and political sensitivity.

- Location & working pattern: Based in National Gas’ central London St James’s office. Hybrid working: three days a week in the office/ onsite, with Monday and Friday available for home working.
- Travel: The role involves frequent travel, including to National Gas sites to build relationships with site teams and understand operational priorities.
