About the role:

We’re looking for a Cyber Technician to support the security and resilience of our Operational Technology (OT) assets in line with National Gas cyber security policies. You’ll work hands-on with technologies such as control systems, industrial PCs, firewalls and managed switches, helping to safeguard critical infrastructure across a range of sites - from major gas terminals to smaller Above Ground Installations. Full training will be provided to build your expertise across these systems.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for backing up configurable OT devices, maintaining accurate asset data and ensuring access credentials are properly managed. You’ll carry out upgrades to meet vulnerability management requirements, securely dispose of retired assets and support malware sweeps and cyber incident investigations. You’ll also play a key role in facilitating cyber assurance visits, supporting site access for upgrade projects and keeping network drawings and asset records up to date.

As a Cyber Technician, your work will directly contribute to our cyber resilience. You’ll support routine cyber maintenance, ensure backups are in place for business continuity and respond to cyber alerts. You’ll be part of an on-call rota for key cyber functions and work closely with our central security team to ensure compliance and readiness across all operational sites.

We have four vacancies, one at each of the following locations; Peterborough, Hatton, Kings Lynn and Chelmsford.

You'll need to be able to travel to whichever site you're based from (as well as other sites across the East of the UK) 5 days a week.

What we're looking for:

Essential -

  • BTEC National Certificate (or equivalent City & Guilds, NVQ/SVQ Level 3) in an instrumentation, engineering or cyber security discipline
  • Time-served apprenticeship (or other recognised training scheme) in an instrumentation, engineering or cyber security

Desirable -

  • Cyber security training
  • Experience in managing firewalls, managed switches etc.
  • Experience in taking operational technology backups
  • Experience in following maintenance work procedures for operational technology
  • Membership of an appropriate institute
  • Proven ability to complete maintenance on instrumentation, including organising, prioritising and scheduling of work assignments
  • Ability to analyse and solve problems relating to instrumentation and related disciplines
  • Demonstrate ability to correctly interpret engineering drawings

What we can offer you:
