The Operations team maintain, repair and upgrade 7,666km of high-pressure pipe, 23 compressor stations, 504 above-ground installations, and 8 connected distribution networks through a highly skilled team of over 600 technicians and engineers across Great Britain. About the Role

We are now seeking an experienced, forward-thinking Head of Engineering Delivery to lead the strategic direction and operational performance of our engineering delivery function for the East region. This role reports directly to the Operations Director.

This is a senior leadership role with significant regional impact. You will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of complex, large-scale engineering projects across the East region, ensuring they meet the highest standards of safety, regulatory compliance, quality, and value. Operating at the intersection of strategy and execution, you’ll provide the vision, leadership, and technical oversight to ensure our engineering function delivers both immediate results and long-term capability.

As Head of Engineering Delivery, you will sit at the regional leadership table and be involved in all aspects of running a successful region, including taking accountability to shape how engineering supports our broader business strategy. From setting delivery standards to enabling innovation through digital technologies, you’ll influence decisions that affect the resilience and performance of a national asset. You’ll also play a critical role in fostering a high-performance culture supporting, growing, and challenging your team to deliver world-class engineering outcomes in a dynamic and highly regulated environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will lead a multidisciplinary engineering delivery team responsible for the successful execution of projects across the East region of our gas transmission network.

From new infrastructure builds to upgrades and refurbishment of critical assets, you’ll oversee projects from initial scoping and planning through to construction, commissioning, and operational handover. It will be your responsibility to ensure these projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest technical and safety standards.

Beyond project execution, you will shape and implement strategies that improve delivery efficiency, mitigate risk, and ensure the optimal allocation of engineering resources. You’ll drive a culture of operational excellence introducing new processes, embracing best practice, and enabling continuous improvement across all facets of engineering delivery.

As a senior leader, you’ll also take a leading role in performance management, team development, and succession planning, ensuring your function is equipped with the skills, capabilities, and mindset to meet current and future demands.

Collaboration will be central to your success. You’ll work closely with stakeholders across operations, asset management, health and safety, regulatory teams, commercial partners, and external contractors ensuring alignment, transparency, and effective communication throughout the project lifecycle. You’ll also provide regular reporting and insight to executive leadership, offering data-driven updates on project status, risk, performance, and cost.

Technology and innovation will form a key part of your mandate. You’ll champion the use of modern engineering tools, systems, and platforms to enhance delivery outcomes and bring greater efficiency, transparency, and accountability into how we deliver infrastructure. With growing pressure on the sector to evolve quickly, your leadership will be critical in keeping our engineering function future-ready and digitally enabled.

This role is based at our Peterborough regional office, and so applicants need to be within travelling distance of this location. The expectation is to work from the Peterborough and other National Gas sites at least three times a week.

You are required to hold an engineering degree or membership of a relevant professional engineering institution. You will also have at least 10 years’ experience in engineering.
