Lead Corrosion Engineer
£53,500 to £62,500, plus:

East region - Peterborough office, regional travel
This is a hybrid role, with a minimum of three days per week spent between our central Peterborough office and sites across the region, with flexibility for home working where appropriate.

The East Region maintains seven compressor stations across Hatton, Peterborough, Cambridge, Huntingdon, King’s Lynn, Diss and Chelmsford, is home to the Bacton North Sea Gas terminal, and is supported by a Peterborough based regional office hosting key corporate and technical teams. About the role
As Lead Corrosion Engineer, you’ll be our subject matter expert for corrosion within gas transmission, playing a key role in protecting the integrity and reliability of critical infrastructure. From corrosion control strategies and cathodic protection (CP) to coatings, materials and standards, you’ll play a central role in keeping our network safe, compliant and future‑ready.
What you'll be doing
- Acting as the corrosion SME across capital projects and asset health programmes
- Developing and approving corrosion control strategies, CP designs and coating specifications
- Challenging designs at key investment stages to ensure best‑practice corrosion management
- Providing specialist corrosion, CP, materials and inhibition support to operational and project teams
- Carrying out audits, inspections, investigations and corrosion risk assessments
- Supporting process safety, design reviews, quality and environmental assessments
- Inputting into contracts, scopes and tender evaluations
- Maintaining gas transmission corrosion procedures, standards and safety bulletins
- Supporting asset management plans, inspections, commissioning and validation surveys (CIPS, DCVG, AC)
- Mentoring junior engineers and driving continuous improvement across the discipline
About you
You’re an experienced corrosion engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and influencing good engineering decisions. You’re comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders, bring a strong safety‑by‑design mindset, and like finding smarter, more efficient ways of working.
Key requirements & experience
Essential
- Degree or HND (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
- Field and design experience with onshore pipeline CP systems
- Strong knowledge of corrosion control, CP (ICCP and sacrificial) and coatings
- Experience in gas transmission or petrochemical asset management environments
- Knowledge of relevant standards and legislation
- Affiliate membership of ICorr and/or AMPP (professional membership preferred)
- BS EN ISO 15257:2017 Level 3 (Onshore / Buried CP)
- Strong safety‑by‑design and safety management awareness
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- BGAS, ICorr or AMPP coatings qualifications
- Chartered Engineer status
- IOSH / NEBOSH / auditing / CDM or design management qualifications
- Knowledge of T/PM/G35 processes, NDT and corrosion assessment techniques
