About the role:
As a Non-Routine Operations (NRO) Officer within our operations support team, you’ll be instrumental in enabling the safe and efficient delivery of maintenance and project work across the national transmission system. This team sits at the core of Gas Transmission operations, ensuring that all activities on terminals, compressor stations, pipelines, and above ground installations (AGIs) are executed in line with our safety and regulatory obligations.
You’ll be responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering both routine and emergency non-routine operational procedures, supporting critical infrastructure and driving operational excellence across your geographic area.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and produce routine and non-routine operational procedures, including emergency NROs, ensuring full compliance with Safe Control of Operations (SCO) procedures (SCO/91, SCO/94, EL/96)
- Conduct site preparatory visits, inspections, audits, and manage associated KPIs for your area
- Plan and manage work activities related to projects, maintenance, defects, breakdowns, and operations to optimise efficiency and asset reliability
- Act as authorising engineer and/or job owner, authorising permission documents and ensuring safe setting to work under SCO protocols for emergency NROs
- Contribute to operational zone and area work plans, including centralised outage planning, ensuring outage requirements are integrated into procedure development
- Participate in formal process safety assessments such as HAZOP, HAZID, HAZCON workshops, and job specific risk assessments
Some travel will be part of the job – we have a national portfolio. You'll travel to the Peterborough office and other sites across the East of the UK up to 4-5 days a week. When not in the office or on site, you'll have the flexibility to work from home.
What we're looking for:
Essential -
- Educated to minimum of HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline, with significant relevant experience
- Good understanding of the operation and maintenance of high pressure gas transmission pipeline systems, terminals, compressor stations and above ground installations, associated plant & equipment, including a detailed understanding of how plant is safely isolated, decommissioned and re-commissioned
- Detailed understanding of the Safe Control of Operations (SCO) procedures and authorised as Authorising Engineer within SCO/91 & /94, and EL/96 for all asset types, and undertakes role of job owner
- Based on experience, post holders will normally progress from a technician discipline of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation or pipelines
- Full UK car driving licence
