Rotating Machinery Manager - Peterborough - £65,000 to £80,000

About the role:

As Rotating Machinery Manager, you'll lead the delivery of compressor overhaul, breakdown response, and refurbishment projects across the gas transmission network. You’ll be responsible for managing a strategic programme of work, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with governance, standards, and procedures.

 

This is a high-impact leadership role with end-to-end accountability for the definition, development, execution, and closure of rotating machinery investment projects. You will drive performance across safety, health, environment, quality, cost, and schedule, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.

 

Working closely with regional teams, you’ll identify opportunities to enhance asset reliability and availability, support operational readiness, and contribute to long-term strategic planning.

 

Key accountabilities:

  • Lead and promote a strong safety culture across all project and operational activities
  • Drive improvements in asset reliability, performance, and availability
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of rotating machinery projects to time, cost, and quality standards
  • Ensure compliance with governance, assurance, and risk management processes
  • Support the development and implementation of strategic plans for rotating machinery assets
  • Provide clear and consistent reporting on project performance and progress
  • Foster collaboration across teams and stakeholders to resolve issues and share best practices
  • Manage resources, budgets, and schedules to optimise delivery outcomes
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team, supporting professional growth and accountability
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in project delivery and asset management

 

Travel will be part of the job – we have a national portfolio. You'll travel to the Peterborough office a couple of times a week as well as visiting other sites across the East of the UK with home working in-between.

What we're looking for:

Essential - 

  • Experience managing rotating machinery in energy, oil & gas, or utilities industry with a strong understanding of gas compressors, turbines, pumps, and associated control systems
  • Proven track record of delivering asset integrity, reliability and performance improvement
  • Degree (or equivalent) in an engineering or contract/project management discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Project management experience including, managing project budgets and forecasts
  • Excellent knowledge of safety, compliance, and operational risk management
  • Strong leadership skills and stakeholder management
  • Full UK car driving licence

 

Desirable - 

  • Familiarity with gas transmission systems and critical national infrastructure
  • Chartered status with relevant professional body (or working towards)
