About us

National Gas is securing Britain’s energy. We transport gas throughout Great Britain, repair and maintain gas pipelines, and manage the meters that allow millions of homes and businesses to access the energy they need. We are the national gas network, providing secure energy to power Britain, achieve net zero, and maintain our industrial competitiveness.

About the role

This is a rare opportunity to support the delivery of a major national infrastructure programme at one of the UK’s most critical gas terminals. As an Assistant Project Manager, you’ll play a hands-on role in taking complex engineering projects from detailed design through construction and commissioning, helping to ensure safe, reliable energy for millions of people.

You’ll support the Project Management team in delivering a high-profile capital project involving the installation of three new Gas Turbine Driven Compressor units. This role is pivotal to ensuring work is delivered safely, on time, to budget, and to the highest quality standards, while working closely with contractors, site teams and terminal operations.

If you’re looking to build deep project management experience on a technically challenging programme, this role gives you exposure, responsibility and development in equal measure.

What you'll be doing

  • Support Project Managers in delivering project milestones across design, construction and commissioning
  • Contribute to SHE management, risk mitigation, quality assurance and programme delivery
  • Coordinate and engage regularly with contractors, subcontractors, site supervisors, designers and terminal operations
  • Attend site frequently, facilitating progress meetings, issue-resolution discussions and contractor performance reviews
  • Produce clear monthly project reports covering safety, progress, risks and financial performance
  • Review Risk Assessments, Method Statements and site delivery programmes, identifying and escalating risks early
  • Monitor works against programme and quality standards, inspecting materials and workmanship where required
  • Support contract administration activities, including Early Warning Notices and evidence gathering
  • Help maintain accurate, up-to-date project documentation, drawings and records
  • Travel to contractor and subcontractor offices and work away from base when required

About you

You’re organised, proactive and confident working with a wide range of stakeholders in a site-based environment. You communicate clearly, enjoy problem-solving, and are motivated to develop your project management career on complex engineering programmes.
