The base location for this role will be St Fergus Gas Terminal and will involve travel to support the wider St Fergus and SN1 area, including Aberdeen Compressor Station.

Salary: £53,000 to £57,000 and range of benefits

About the Role:

To provide specialist support and expertise across the COMAH St Fergus Gas Terminal and Aberdeen Compressor to assure and continually improve safety, security and environmental compliance and performance with all legislation, regulation, external standards, and company policy & procedures, and demonstrable ‘trusted operator’ assurance in representing National Gas’s interests during engagement with all relevant external customer and stakeholder groups within the Terminal Complex’s.

What You'll be Doing

Provide specialist safety, security and environmental management, expertise, support and assurance at the Upper Tier COMAH Terminal St Fergus ensuring documentation and records are maintained to ensure compliance with the requirements of legislation, regulation, external standards (eg. ISO14001 & Control of Major Accident Hazard regulations) and company policies & procedures, and continual improvement in associated performance.

Help coordinate (with support from the Compliance Manager and wider management team), any HSE and SEPA planned interventions across St Fergus and SN1, as well as any follow up activities required

Manage the collection, updating and reporting requirements for St Fergus and Aberdeen compliance data and information including regulatory reporting, Process Safety KPI reporting and the maintaining of the environmental aspects register, site risk register, asset health information, and site authorisations and licenses

Undertake Human Factors Safety Critical Task studies and analyses of work tasks associated with High Risk and Major Accident Hazard scenario’s identifying actions and improvements to eliminate, reduce, isolate and control the hazards identified

Support the development, updating, and re-issuing of across the Upper Tier COMAH Terminal St Fergus COMAH Safety Report in accordance with the requirements of the COMAH Regulations and HSE expectations. Undertake formal hazard and process safety studies, bow tie analysis and ALARP studies to mitigate major accident hazard scenarios and high hazard activities

Undertake role of lead change agent to support development and continual improvement of compliance and safety awareness, behaviours, ownership, and performance within the St Fergus and SN1 Team using internal & external good practices, industry standards and benchmarking.

Support with the management of functional safety, alarm management, DSEAR compliance and occupied building studies

Act as the company representative for St Fergus (with support from the Compliance Manager) with the relevant wider Terminal operators and complex in dealings with external customers, stakeholders, regulators, agencies & local authorities, liaison groups, emergency services and security services, providing a trusted operator assurance, engagement and representation, including the management of all ‘site occupier’ duties to the relevant standards.

Provide leadership for St Fergus and SN1 to ensure we continue to meet and exceed HSE expectations with respect to process safety and COMAH/PSR site management, ensuring that GT remains compliant with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements providing a trusted operator assurance, including the management of all ‘site occupier’ duties to the relevant standards.

Support the construction and commissioning of new assets onto the system across St Fergus and SN1 in accordance with agreed policies & quality standards, and identify the requirement to replace/upgrade existing plant and equipment including the preparation of business cases, initiation of design and provision of technical support within competency as required

Ensure that emergency, security, safety, operational and environmental plans and procedures are developed, authorised, reviewed and tested on a regular basis including the onsite and offsite emergency plans, undertake the roles of incident controller and site main controller during planned and emergency situations in accordance with the on and off-site emergency plans, monitoring and control of site security operations

Undertake incident investigations to determine route causes and subsequent actions to prevent future occurrence.

Support the development and updating of company policies and procedures, local procedures and guidance documents, communicating with and briefing the site teams to ensure understanding and effective implementation.

About You

You'll be a process safety professional with an excellent all-round knowledge and demonstrable experience of working in process safety management in an high-hazard operational facility / environment. You'll have the ability to influence, coach, and guide others which will be matched by your customer-oriented approach and commitment to maintaining high standards in operational environments. You'll have strong leadership and communication skills, capable of fostering a collaborative and safety-focused team culture.

Key Requirements and Experience

· Good understanding of safety & environmental legislative requirements, including COMAH and PSR requirements

· Good understanding of HSE and SEPA working practices and expectations


· Experience working in process safety with demonstrable high safety standards

· Knowledge of operation and maintenance of high-pressure gas transmission pipeline systems and above ground installations, including associated plant & equipment (or similar industries)

· Strong leadership, influencing, and communication skills

· HNC or equivalent, and/or significant relevant experience in engineering or process operational discipline

· IOSH Managing Safely certification

· Full UK car driving licence

· NEBOSH General Certificate - desirable

· Incident investigation root cause analysis - desirable
