About the role

This is a hands‑on site leadership role at the heart of one of our major infrastructure programmes. As Project Supervisor, you’ll be part of our on‑site representation team, ensuring construction activities are delivered safely, compliantly, and to plan at the St Fergus Terminal a critical asset within the UK’s energy network.

 

This role exists to ensure that site‑based construction activities are managed effectively, safely, and in line with National Gas' expectations. Acting as the Engineer’s Representative, you’ll provide day‑to‑day oversight of the Main Works Contractor, balancing safety, programme delivery, and stakeholder coordination to keep the project moving and risks tightly controlled.

What you'll be doing

  • Acting as Engineer’s Representative on site, overseeing construction activities and ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and contract requirements.
  • Championing health, safety and environmental standards, including proactive oversight of CDM duties, site safety walks, and contractor coordination.
  • Reviewing and approving Risk Assessments and Method Statements to ensure safe and deliverable execution.
  • Managing interface between the Project Team, Terminal Operations and contractors, including Permit to Work coordination and issue resolution.
  • Working with other Project Supervisors as necessary either those directly aligned to own project of those on other related projects, maintaining good communication routes providing a coordinated and safe approach to the activities.
  • Monitoring contractor delivery programmes, identifying risks early and escalating to Project Engineers/Managers as required.
  • Chairing and minuting regular site progress meetings, maintaining clear and auditable site records.
  • Inspecting materials and workmanship against industry and construction standards, approving or rejecting as appropriate.
  • Issuing site instructions and supporting wider contract administration, including early warning notices and evidence gathering.
  • Ensuring drawing and document control is maintained, with the latest revisions available and correctly filed at all times.

About you

You’re a clear and confident communicator who builds credibility quickly with contractors, engineers, and operational teams alike. Calm under pressure and highly organised, you’re comfortable making sound judgements on site while keeping safety, quality, and delivery firmly front of mind.

Key requirements & experience

Essential:

  • Experience in project or site supervision within a construction or contracting environment.
  • Sound project management fundamentals, including risk management across safety, cost, time, quality, and scope.
  • Good working knowledge of CDM Regulations, health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Awareness of NEC4 contracts and construction documentation.
  • Ability to review and challenge RAMS, construction methods, and delivery programmes.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with the confidence to engage contractors and senior stakeholders.
  • Health and Safety Qualification such as IOSH.

 

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with control systems and/or rotating equipment.
  • Working towards or planning to pursue APM qualifications. If not, we would support you through this.

 

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
