About the role

Are you ready to make a real impact on the way our energy infrastructure operates? Join our dynamic Engineering Policy team and play a pivotal role in developing and maintaining the technical standards that keep the UK’s gas transmission network running safely, efficiently, and sustainably.

 

As a Policy Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of our mission to set and uphold the engineering standards that underpin every stage of our gas transmission assets’ lifecycle, from design and construction to operation, maintenance, and decommissioning. Your work will directly influence how we deliver safe, reliable, and innovative energy solutions across the country.

What you'll be doing

  • Collaborating with subject matter experts and engineering teams to develop, review, and maintain technical standards for gas transmission.
  • Managing and improving processes for the creation, approval, and implementation of engineering policies.
  • Ensuring our standards meet business needs and comply with legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Supporting responses to technical queries and deviations, and communicating updates through engineering bulletins.
  • Representing the company on external standards bodies and contributing to industry best practices.
  • Driving innovation and efficiency by supporting business change, incident response, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Helping to develop IT tools and systems that enable effective reporting and decision-making.

About you

You’re a natural collaborator and clear communicator, able to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels. Your proactive, analytical approach means you thrive on solving complex problems and driving positive change.

Key requirements & experience

Essential:

  • Relevant engineering and industry experience (ideally in gas transmission or distribution but not essential)
  • Strong understanding of legislative requirements and engineering policy documents
  • Experience in technical writing, reviewing, and editing for technical audiences
  • Proven ability to scrutinize technical documentation, drawings, and systems
  • Working knowledge of project management, change management, and governance processes
  • Excellent IT literacy and business acumen
  • Full UK driving licence

 

Desirable:

  • Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it)
  • In-depth technical understanding of gas transmission / distribution assets
  • Experience delivering business change and innovative solutions
