Quantity Surveyor – National Role with site in Wormington area – £51,000 - £63,000

About the Role:

As a Quantity Surveyor, you’ll provide contractual expertise for construction projects across the UK’s National Transmission System. From control system upgrades and asset decommissioning to new builds and the transition to hydrogen, your work will be pivotal to ensuring the flow of gas and the future of clean energy.

COST CONTROL AND REPORTING 

 

  • Support and co-ordinate the preparation of, and provide assurance on budget estimates including risk & contingency allowance at all stages of the project lifecycle
  • Lead/support the commercial processes (incl. detailed cost reports) and internal governance requirements, ensuring they are adhered to at all stages of the project lifecycle
  • Review entitlement and assessing the time and cost impact of compensation events
  • Lead on the payment application process

 

PROCUREMENT AND TENDERING

 

  • Act as the Contracts and Commercial Team representative on tender and procurement events
  • With a Value for Money mindset, lead tender return evaluations, support tender negotiations, and Contract Award

 

CONTRACT MANAGEMENT

 

  • Lead contract administration, ensuring all notices are issued and replied to within the contract timeframes, ensuring contractual risks are tracked and escalated where required
  • Provide analysis of compensation events, and support the process of escalation and dispute avoidance / resolution where required 
  • Attending project related meetings to support the Project Team in commercial and contractual matters
  • Ensure due diligence is consistent, with assurance & audit of all Contractor costs for your assigned projects

 

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

 

  • Working with both internal & external stakeholders to support National Gas on regulator requirements
  • Leading commercial lessons learned and stakeholder interfaces on projects

 

MENTORING 

 

  • Support the assignment of tasks to Assistant QS’s within the team, also developing the individuals’ contracts and commercial skills

What We’re Looking For:

 

What we do isn’t just important – it’s critical. That’s why we look to recruit experts in their field. In this case, we’re looking for someone who has most of the below:

 

  • Experience of providing cost assurance of projects carried out under NEC3 or NEC4 Contracts (preferably options A, C & E)
  • Experience in contract management in a Construction environment
  • Expertise in risk management, cash flow forecasting, and supply chain management
  • Strong commercial acumen and reporting system knowledge
  • In-depth knowledge of contract management, payment applications, early warning notices and compensation events
  • Experience with the use of Contract Management Systems (such as FastDraft) 
  • Knowledge of earned value management and monitoring cost performance
  • Oversee procurement activities, including tender evaluations and negotiations
  • Experience across both pre- and post-contract stages
  • Knowledge of the gas transmission system desirable, but not essential
  • A full UK driving license
  • Flexibility to support projects across other regions when required
