About the role

 

We’re looking for a forward-thinking Operations Cyber Engineer to lead a team of around 7 employees in a pivotal role that will shape the future of cyber operations within our organisation. This is an exciting opportunity to bring all cyber work in-house, contribute to a wide range of innovative projects, and grow professionally in a fast-paced and evolving field.

 

While the role is advertised as being based in Rugby, we are also able to offer this position from any of the following locations: Wormington, Warrington, Aylesbury, Felindre, or Nether Kellet.

 

As the technical lead within your operational area, you’ll be responsible for overseeing cyber maintenance of operational technology across the National Transmission System. 

 

You’ll develop and implement Local Work Instructions based on central security policies, lead continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure real-world cyber risk reductions. You’ll also act as the initial point of contact for a specific control system, supporting operations and construction teams with cyber resilience.

 

This role offers a unique blend of hands-on engineering, leadership, and strategic influence, with full training provided in both National Gas-specific and international cyber standards.

 

Essential Skills & Experience

 

  • Strong engineering background in Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering
  • Proven ability to lead and coach technical teams
  • Experience working within a formal work permit system
  • Excellent project management and financial management skills
  • High standards of personal integrity and safety awareness
  • Strong problem-solving and data analysis capabilities
  • Effective communicator with strong organisational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to foster a collaborative and resilient team environment

 

Qualifications/Experience

 

    Essential:

 

  •     BTEC Higher National Certificate (or equivalent) in Instrumentation, Engineering, or Cyber
  •     Incorporated Engineer status or working towards it
  •     Full and valid UK Driving Licence

 

    Desirable:

 

  •     Field experience on gas operational sites
  •     Cyber security experience and/or training
  •     Experience with control systems, PLCs, or RTUs
  •     IOSH Managing Safely qualification
