About the role

As a Senior Policy Engineer, you’ll collaborate with SMEs and engineering teams to ensure our policies reflect best practice, innovation, and compliance across the full lifecycle of our transmission assets, from design and construction to operation and decommissioning. You will also:

• Lead the development and management of gas transmission technical standards.
• Guide and support SMEs in creating high-quality engineering policy documents.
• Represent National Gas on external standards bodies.
• Develop systems and processes for technical queries, deviations, and bulletins.
• Contribute to strategic planning for engineering policy across short, mid, and long-term horizons.
• Support innovation, incident response, and legislative compliance.
• Drive improvements in document control, IT systems, and business reporting tools.

What we are looking for

We’re seeking someone who brings a mix of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and collaborative spirit. You’ll thrive in this role if you have:

• Strong interpersonal skills to influence across internal and external stakeholders.
• Business acumen to drive value through innovation and standardisation.
• Experience in engineering policy, legislative requirements, technical writing, and document control.
• Gas engineering experience (transmission or distribution) with broad understanding of all disciplines.
• A relevant engineering qualification (BEng, MEng, MSc, or HNC).
