About us

National Gas is securing Britain’s energy. We transport gas throughout Great Britain, repair and maintain gas pipelines, and manage the meters that allow millions of homes and businesses to access the energy they need. We are the national gas network, providing secure energy to power Britain, achieve net zero, and maintain our industrial competitiveness.

About the role

Help shape value-for-money outcomes across critical supply chains that keep Great Britain moving. If you enjoy the idea of turning commercial insight into practical results and working closely with stakeholders to deliver well-run sourcing activity, this is a great opportunity to start or grow your procurement career within a nationally critical organisation.

As a Buyer within our Major Programmes team, you’ll play a key role in delivering lower-value, lower-risk sourcing and contract management activity across assigned spend categories. Your work will directly support effective supplier relationships, strong governance, and best-value outcomes while contributing to wider category strategies that underpin National Gas’s operational and transformation goals.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading end-to-end sourcing and contract management activities for low-risk, lower-complexity requirements
  • Running competitive sourcing processes, including market research, tender document preparation, RFx management, supplier evaluation, negotiation and contract award
  • Delivering sourcing events typically valued between £Thousands – £Millions, including framework call-offs and contract extensions
  • Supporting Category Managers by ensuring sourcing activity aligns to agreed category strategies
  • Managing a portfolio of lower-value contracts and suppliers, tracking performance, obligations and delivering targeted improvements where needed
  • Supporting contract changes by qualifying requirements, planning amendments and implementing updates with Category Manager oversight
  • Carrying out expediting activity where required, including ordering, delivery tracking and monitoring usage
  • Acting as a key point of contact between internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure clear, consistent communication
  • Operating in line with procurement governance, risk and compliance procedures to minimise commercial and operational risk
  • Working closely with regional and category teams to share best practice and build strong working relationships
