About the role
As a Planning & Controls Officer, you'll play a key role in coordinating the planning and scheduling of maintenance, operational, and asset activities across our gas transmission network. You'll help ensure work is delivered safely, efficiently, and at the right time to maintain the availability and reliability of critical infrastructure.
Why this role matters
Effective planning is essential to keeping the UK's gas transmission system operating safely and reliably. In this role, you'll translate long-term work plans into achievable operational schedules, helping teams deliver maintenance, repairs, and operational activities across terminals, compressor stations, pipelines, and AGI assets.
Working closely with operational, asset, construction, and planning teams, you'll help balance resources, manage changing priorities, and drive continuous improvement across the planning process. Your work will directly support the resilience of National Gas' network and the customers and communities that rely on it.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead work scheduling activities to support the efficient delivery of maintenance, defect, breakdown, and project work
- Coordinate resources and workloads to maximise asset availability and operational performance
- Work with Portfolio Planning and operational teams to develop and maintain achievable project delivery plans
- Manage changes to plans, identifying constraints and ensuring replanning activities are completed efficiently
- Collaborate with teams across Operations, Construction, and Asset Management to resolve planning conflicts and priorities
- Ensure planning decisions are accurately recorded, communicated, and supported by clear rationale
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and support post-work reviews to enhance planning effectiveness
What you’ll bring
This role would suit someone who enjoys solving complex planning challenges, coordinating multiple stakeholders, and making sure work is delivered as effectively as possible. You'll be organised, confident communicating with a range of people, and motivated by delivering operational excellence.

- Ability to work in a structured environment while managing changing priorities
- Full UK driving licence

- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures within an operational or engineering environment
- Experience working within utilities, infrastructure, engineering, or asset-intensive industries
- Experience leading process improvements or planning-related change initiatives
