Records Management Assistant, Warrington (Fully Onsite) – £32,936 or £34,874 plus benefits

As Records Management Assistant, you will be supporting the effective management of National Gas information across both physical and digital environments. Working closely with our Analysts and reporting to the Records Manager, you’ll help maintain access to vital records, improve processes for managing hard‑copy materials, and contribute to key projects that strengthen best‑practice records management across the organisation.
You’ll also play an important role in supporting the National Gas Archive, working with volunteers to review, catalogue, and preserve historic gas industry records.

About the role
In this role, you will:
- Oversee daily operations in the Warrington warehouse, ensuring safety, compliance, and up‑to‑date local procedures.
- Maintain access to stored information, working with Analysts and the wider business to improve service delivery.
- Carry out secure, timely destruction of hard‑copy records in line with retention rules, maintaining full audit trails.
- Handle enquiries from internal teams, external stakeholders, and the public via the shared mailbox.
- Support the production of accurate monthly, quarterly and annual compliance and usage statistics.
- Conduct regular storage facility audits, recording findings and ensuring issues are resolved promptly.
- Keep database information accurate to enable efficient record retrieval.
- Manage tools, equipment and hardware used for Records and Archive operations.
- Support the development and review of Records Centre processes and procedures.
- Build strong working relationships across the business to promote compliant recordkeeping.
- Engage in training and professional development to enhance skills and performance.
- Maintain awareness of industry standards, regulations and best practice in records management.
This role requires the postholder to be onsite full-time in Warrington due to the nature of work. Candidates must live within a short commutable distance in or from Warrington.
About you
- Experience working in an Information and Records Management environment, ideally with exposure to warehouse or operational settings and relevant health & safety practices.
- Strong IT skills, including confident use of Excel, Word and SharePoint.
- Able to prioritise effectively, analyse data accurately, and produce clear, high‑quality written reports.
- Skilled at building positive working relationships and collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Proactive in identifying opportunities to improve processes and deliver value for the Records Centre.
- Comfortable working at height and regularly lifting and carrying loads up to 10kg.
- Knowledge of the Data Protection Act 2018 and its practical application in handling information and enquiries.
