Records Manager – Warrington Cheshire; c£50,000 + bens
Based in the National Gas Records Centre in Warrington, the Records Manager will be responsible for implementing and delivering a strategy for the transformation of Records Management provision and operational activities in National Gas, people managing a team of four.
The Records Management team are responsible for the maintenance of the Company’s Records Management Procedure, the implementation of Records Retention Schedules across the company, and the cataloguing and physical storage of records for National Gas and other customers.
National Gas is the national gas network, transporting gas throughout Great Britain. We repair and maintain gas pipelines, and manage the meters that allow millions of homes and businesses to access the energy they need.

Key Accountabilities:
The role will be to effectively manage the Records Management team. You will also lead the refinement and implementation of a strategy for the transformation of the records management provision in National Gas, covering:
- Service provision to and management of external clients, including leading on contractual, commercial and data privacy issues
- Future requirements for and provision of physical storage and associated office requirements
- Development and implementation of new ways of working, including the digitisation of records
- Ensuring the most economic future solution which meets the requirements of National Gas
- Management of all electronic systems required, including leading on contractual, commercial and data privacy issues
- Management of the Historical Gas Archive, including future requirements for and provision of physical archive storage plus relationship with and co-ordination of external volunteers.
You will also:
- Manage the physical record storage facility, including all related operational and safety duties, and ownership and review of local working procedures.
- Create a centralised, legally compliant, records retention strategy including the update or creation of all associated policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain a network of key stakeholders across National Gas to ensure that all records have up-to date Records Retention Schedules in place with clear accountabilities for decisions such as storage and disposal.
- Management of all contracts associated with the Records Centre, including drafting and implementing changes to customer agreements such as changes to costs and services provided, and ensuring accurate and timely invoicing of customers.
- Management of the software and hardware, and associated contracts, required to perform the Records Centre and Archive activities.
- Identify and implement novel solutions to improve processes and drive efficiencies in the operation and development of both Records Management and the Gas Archive.
- Input timely and robust metrics to Business Integrity which provide insight into the level of compliance with Records Management policy, as well as data about the costs and utilisation of the Records Centre.
About you:
The Records Centre is an operational site hosting material for both internal and external customers. The position will therefore require an individual with both a practical approach and a strong business and commercial acumen as well as knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and regulations (as far as they apply to the operational running of a Records Centre and Warehouse).
Experience of people management is essential.
A strong commercial focus is required, with the ability to identify and progress opportunities for the Records Centre which present clear business benefits.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of managing customers and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
Working knowledge of records management and interaction with associated data privacy issues (including applicable GDPR and Legislation) would be highly regarded.
