About us
National Gas is securing Britain’s energy. We transport gas throughout Great Britain, repair and maintain gas pipelines, and manage the meters that allow millions of homes and businesses to access the energy they need. We are the national gas network, providing secure energy to power Britain, achieve net zero, and maintain our industrial competitiveness.
What the role
We are recruiting Asset Management Leads and Specialists to shape the long-term investment strategy for the UK’s gas transmission network.
You’ll be developing robust, evidence-based Asset Management Plans (AMP) and asset class strategies that support a safe, resilient and cost-effective network. All whilst the sector navigates major change, including the transition to net zero and the potential for a hydrogen future.
Our AMP sets the direction for 10+ year whole-life asset investment planning and underpins the business plan used to secure funding through the regulatory framework. In these roles, you’ll build lasting relationships with a variety of stakeholders and produce the investment logic and evidence that supports decisions on significant consumer investment and you’ll help ensure clarity of handover into delivery teams once investment decisions are made.
What you'll be doing
- Delivering robust, evidence-based Asset Management Plans (AMP) aligned to organisational objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Developing asset class strategies / long-term investment strategies that balance asset risk, operational performance and whole-life cost.
- Undertaking and/or applying asset risk assessment, whole-life cost analysis, and value-based decision-making to define intervention options and investment direction.
- Producing clear, balanced, evidence-based business cases and investment proposals with cost-benefit assessment and strong investment rationale.
- Delivering regulatory business plan submissions (Engineering Justification Reports) to secure capex funding and ensuring effective handover to relevant business units.
- Working collaboratively with specialists across engineering, finance, regulation, procurement, and operational teams to coordinate inputs into coherent, technically robust and affordable plans.
- Communicating and justifying investment decisions clearly to a wide range of stakeholders, including non-specialists.
- Identifying and delivering continuous improvement opportunities to increase asset management maturity across the organisation.
In the more senior role, you'll play a broader leadership and assurance role across an asset theme including;
- Providing clear, concise and credible recommendations to senior leaders, regulators and stakeholders on asset condition, investment need and strategic direction.
- Applying strategic and systems thinking to assess multiple competing drivers and inform long-term planning.
- Building strong external relationships with Ofgem, NESO and DESNZ to demonstrate informed decision-making and secure funding.
- Developing and supporting specialist asset management specialists through technical direction and professional oversight, driving consistency and quality of outputs.
- Acting as a technical expert within the team to support high-quality asset management decisions and ensuring regulatory submission quality.
