Join us and help secure Britain's energy.

About the role

Join our Major Programmes team as an Assistant Investment Planner and help shape the future of Britain's energy infrastructure.

You'll support the development of investment initiatives that underpin our long-term asset strategy, helping to turn strategic priorities into practical, deliverable projects. Working closely with stakeholders across the business, you'll contribute to the planning and delivery of investments that support the future of the energy network.

Why this role matters

The decisions we make today will shape the reliability, resilience, and efficiency of the energy network for years to come.

In this role, you'll help turn asset strategies into well-defined investment opportunities that deliver value, meet regulatory requirements and support long-term business objectives. By developing data-driven investment cases and supporting major programme delivery, you'll play an important part in ensuring we invest in the right projects, at the right time, to meet the needs of customers and the energy system of the future.

What you’ll be doing

  • Develop fully funded projects with clear deliverables aligned to RIIO-T3 commitments
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships to support efficient project delivery
  • Produce clear reports, presentations, and briefings for a range of audiences, including senior leaders
  • Lead meetings to communicate progress, portfolio performance, and key updates
  • Deliver projects in line with strategic priorities and financial objectives
  • Monitor project spend, forecast costs, and identify risks or variances against budget
  • Analyse investment, resource, outage, and delivery data to support decision-making
  • Work closely with Investment Planners, Engineers, Finance, Regulatory, and Project Delivery teams
  • Support projects through the Gas Network Development Process (ND500), from concept through to initiation
  • Identify opportunities to improve investment planning processes and ways of working

What you’ll bring

This role could be a great fit if you're naturally analytical, enjoy working with data and stakeholders, and want to help shape major infrastructure investment decisions.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and build effective working relationships
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using reporting or data management systems
  • Experience working within programme, project, or portfolio management environments
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of how investment decisions support wider business objectives

  • Experience in investment planning, project controls, performance reporting, or portfolio management
  • Knowledge of engineering, infrastructure, utilities, or asset management environments
  • Understanding of RIIO regulatory frameworks and reporting requirements
