About the Role

We’re looking for two enthusiastic and proactive Assistant Project Managers to join our Major Programmes team, one role focused on Pipelines and the other on Diversions. Reporting to the Project Manager, you’ll play a key role in coordinating stakeholders, managing project documentation, and supporting the full lifecycle of projects, from planning and appraisal through to commissioning and closure.

You’ll also deputise for the Project Manager when required and contribute to the successful management of our Tier 1 Contract Partners and sub-suppliers under various NEC4 contract types.

This is a dynamic role within a collaborative delivery team, working closely with Project Managers, Design Coordinators, and Subject Matter Experts across a diverse portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development of project briefs and coordinate with Subject Matter Experts and wider business stakeholders.
  • Support in procurement tendering processes for contract award.
  • Assist in managing Health, Safety, and Environmental aspects throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide regular updates on project workflow and status.
  • Contribute to project closure reports, technical documentation, and asset records.
  • Support financial forecasting and manage project finances using internal accounting systems.
  • Help maintain and update the Project Risk Register.
  • Foster strong stakeholder relationships through clear communication and collaborative working.
  • Provide accurate and timely project reports to the Project Manager or Senior Project Manager.
  • Undertake the contractual role of Project Manager for designated schemes when required.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Criteria

  • Proven experience in supporting successful project delivery within capital investment programmes.
  • Strong project management skills, including risk management and delivery to scope, time, cost, quality, and safety.
  • Experience with NEC4 contract administration.
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation, including CDM 2015.
  • Understanding of Process Safety in relation to high-pressure gas systems.
  • Ability to manage workload independently and prioritise effectively.
  • Full UK driving licence.


Desirable Criteria

  • Educated to at least HNC/HND level (or equivalent) in engineering, construction, or project management.
  • Experience in the utilities sector (water, gas, electrical, petrochemical).
  • Working towards Chartered status or equivalent in engineering or project management.
  • Recognised qualifications or training in Project Management, Health & Safety, Environmental.


The role will involve hybrid working with a combination home, office & site working, as well as travel to Contractor or supplier premises across the UK.
