Company: National Gas

Join us, and help be the energy behind the change

Here at National Gas, we are at the forefront of the UK's move towards sustainable energy and achieving our Net Zero goals by 2050. Whilst our teams work behind the scenes to develop the future of our energy systems, our engineers are out in the field delivering the natural gas demands of today.

About the Role

Our Capital Projects Graduates Programme is a highly sought-after opportunity, where you’ll work alongside a skilled team, responsible for a variety of work across nearly all aspects of National Gas’ infrastructure. Our Capital Projects team covers a wide range of work, from security upgrades, asset replacement and pipeline diversions, to working with industry for hydrogen and biomethane connections such as project union, where we’re repurposing existing gas transmission pipelines and building new pipelines to create a hydrogen ‘backbone’ for the UK.

During this 18-month programme, after your initial induction, you’ll complete two 9-month placements. In your first placement you’ll gain a deep understanding of the work the business area you’ve been aligned to does. You’ll get stuck straight in, learning the role from a supervisor’s perspective. You’ll be frequenting our sites, learning how to do the work we do, safely, such as understanding how quality and assurance checks and audits are completed.

About You

To thrive in this role, you’ll need to be a self-starter, so able to use your initiative. You’ll need to be adaptable, working across different teams and projects, so a strong team player.

  • Electrical
  • Petro Chemical

But this is by no means an exhaustive list. Modules in leadership, or any leadership experience would be beneficial to highlight in your cover letter.

A cover letter is essential to help us understand why you're a great fit for the role. Be sure to include any other relevant experience or university modules.

Our sites are located across the country, so you’ll need to be comfortable with travel and overnight stays from time to time. This also means that you’ll need to hold a full driving licence and be comfortable driving between sites.

You'll need to have permanent right to work in the UK for the entirety of this programme, as we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.

Studies suggest that women tend to apply only if they meet 100% of the criteria. If you resonate with our mission, the role excites you and your skills align, we encourage you to apply.

Your next steps...

You'll be offered support and guidance throughout the application process by our Early Careers team. Eligible applications will be reviewed by a human, every step of the way. We encourage you to only apply for one scheme, so please consider this carefully. When reviewing your application, if we feel you might be a good fit for something else, we'll be sure to let you know.

If your online application is successful, you’ll be invited to a virtual solo interview. The final stage is an in-person Assessment Centre at our Warwick Head Office on either Monday 13th January 2025 or Friday 17th January 2025, so you must be available on either of these dates. Support is available towards travel costs if required.

Applications close on Sunday 27th October 2024. Each year, we receive a large volume of applications, so we'd encourage you to apply early.
