Date: 30 Sep 2024

Location: Warwick, GB, CV34 6DA

Company: National Gas

Join us, and help be the energy behind the change

Here at National Gas, we are at the forefront of the UK's move towards sustainable energy and achieving our Net Zero goals by 2050. Whilst our teams work behind the scenes to develop the future of our energy systems, our engineers are out in the field delivering the natural gas demands of today.

About the Role

As a Risk and Change graduate, you'll join our construction team. National Gas undertakes a wide range of construction projects to ensure our pipeline network and assets continue to deliver the capabilities required across the country.

In all our construction projects, we have three core priorities:

  • On time and on budget – completing works to a high standard in line with our capital delivery plan.
  • Delivering for consumers and customers – our assets support the delivery of energy across the UK, so it’s vital to provide a quality product that meets the needs of consumers and customers.
  • Future-proofing – ensuring the network is prepared for future energy scenarios, including the continued use of natural gas while ensuring key assets are hydrogen-ready.

You'll join us to manage our CapitalX portfolio from a risk management perspective. You'll be part of the risk centre of excellence for construction, giving support to delivery teams in developing risk registers and looking at risk appetite and our drawdown contingency and how this is used.

During this 18-month programme, after your initial induction, you’ll complete three 6-month placements. You’ll be frequenting our sites, doing a monthly review of risks and learning how your work fits into the context of the work we do. This is a role full of variety and opportunity, as you'll experience a broad spectrum of work and projects across the business.

About You

To thrive in this role you'll have a desire to continually learn and build on your knowledge. You'll need to be able to take initiative, and develop strong relationships with key stakeholder and work as a reliable member of a team.

We celebrate the different experiences our colleagues bring to our organisation, and strongly encourage applicants of all backgrounds to apply.

  • Engineering
  • Other STEM subjects

If you have also studied sustainability, supply chain management or project management as part of your degree, please be sure to detail this in your application, as we would love to hear about it.

A cover letter is essential to help us understand why you're a great fit for the role. Be sure to include any other relevant experience or university modules.

Our sites are located across the country, so you’ll need to be comfortable with travel and overnight stays from time to time. This also means that you’ll need to hold a full driving licence and be comfortable driving between sites.

You'll need to have permanent right to work in the UK for the entirety of this programme, as we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.

Studies suggest that women tend to apply only if they meet 100% of the criteria. If you resonate with our mission, the role excites you and your skills align, we encourage you to apply.

As part of our Hybrid working approach, your time will be split between office days, site visits and working from home.

You'll start in a large cohort of other graduates and apprentices, where you'll attend an in person induction in September 2025, fostering strong workplace relationships that will build the foundation of your future networks.

Your next steps...

You'll be offered support and guidance throughout the application process by our Early Careers team. Eligible applications will be reviewed by a human, every step of the way. We encourage you to only apply for one scheme, so please consider this carefully. When reviewing your application, if we feel you might be a good fit for something else, we'll be sure to let you know.

If your online application is successful, you’ll be invited to a virtual solo interview. The final stage is an in-person Assessment Centre at our Warwick Head Office on either Monday 13th January 2025 or Friday 17th January 2025, so you must be available on either of these dates. Support is available towards travel costs if required.

Applications close on Sunday 27th October 2024. Each year, we receive a large volume of applications, so we'd encourage you to apply early
