National Gas Metering maintains and manages around 5.2 million domestic, industrial and commercial gas assets across the UK, enabling homes and industry to access the energy they need safely and reliably. National Gas Metering supports new connections and maintains existing installations.
The Credit and Invoicing Manager is accountable for the strategic oversight and operational management of National Gas Metering’s credit, invoicing, and revenue assurance function. Responsible for safeguarding revenue integrity, optimising cash flow, and maintaining a strong financial control environment.

About the role:
- Ultimate accountability for the accurate invoicing and timely collection of annual revenue, spanning 800 price classes and 5.2 million assets billed monthly, consolidated into approximately 200 invoices.
- Strategic leadership and management of the Credit and Invoicing function, including oversight of a team of 3 direct reports.
- Ownership of revenue assurance, proactively safeguarding the integrity, completeness, and accuracy of revenue through risk-based controls.
- Maintaining a strong financial control environment, ensuring key controls are effectively operated in alignment with internal policies and external audit requirements.
- Oversight of the monthly billing cycle, including invoicing, cash collection, and reconciliation activities ensuring a timely and accurate process.
- Full accountability for National Gas Metering’s Trade Receivables Ledger, Advanced Payments, Security Deposits and Bank Account, ensuring accurate reporting, reconciliation, and effective cash management.
- Governance of customer credit risk, ensuring compliance with Credit Policy including management of security instruments (e.g., deposits, guarantees, letters of credit).
- Ultimate data owner for all revenue and billing critical data elements to support reliable financial reporting, revenue collection and decision-making.
- Senior escalation point for complex and high-value customer invoicing issues
- Accountable for team Customer Satisfaction (CSAT) performance
- Accountable for successful system implementations and incident resolution from a revenue and billing perspective, ensuring business continuity through robust issue tracking, root cause analysis, and timely escalation with internal IT and external service providers. Drives system integrity and process alignment to protect revenue and enhance operational resilience.
- Lead change management activities, ensuring successful transitions from project delivery to business-as-usual operations, embedding new processes and systems.
- Ensure pricing accuracy across commercial systems (Maximo, DotNet, Supplier Portal) to support correct billing and reporting.
About you:
We’re seeking a qualified finance professional (CIMA, ACCA, ACA/ CA or CICM) or qualified by substantial experience Credit and Invoicing Manager, with up-to-date technical knowledge and a strong track record of developing part-qualified team members through their professional qualifications. You have proven experience in senior finance or credit management roles within larger and complex organisations (utilities would be preferable, but not essential) that operate under robust compliance, governance, and financial control frameworks.
- Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards and financial processes - revenue recognition, cash management, trade receivables and bad debt provisioning.
- Exceptional communication and influencing skills.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, translate complex data into actionable insight for strategic decision-making (advanced MS Excel).
- Comprehensive understanding of security instruments and contractual credit terms
- Broad knowledge of contract and account management frameworks
- Experience in designing, implementing, and monitoring business and IT controls, ensuring a resilient control environment that meets audit and regulatory standards
