Warwick, GB, CV34 6DA
Join us and help be the energy behind the change.
National Gas is the backbone of Britain’s energy system. We transport gas across Great Britain, repair and maintain gas pipelines, and manage the meters that allow power stations, businesses and millions of homes to access the energy they need. National Gas's mission is to lead the UK's energy transition to a clean, safe, affordable, and reliable energy future.
Cyber Security is essential to make sure we as National Gas can keep the gas flowing: protecting our corporate, operational, and digital assets to keep people warm and safe. Our Cyber Security Internship is designed to equip you with some of the hands-on experience you need at the start of your Security career, and to help support our critical role in the energy sector.
What to Expect
Our Cyber Security Internship is a 10–12 week paid opportunity to join our dedicated Protect and Defend functions, as well as gain insights in physical security. Designed for students in their penultimate year of study, this scheme is a chance for you to develop your expertise in cyber security, through hands-on experience in a range of security disciplines, to protect and defend critical national infrastructure in the energy sector.
As an intern you’ll have the opportunity to gain exposure to a range of security functions within our organisation, work on real-world challenges, and receive mentorship from experienced professionals in your field.
Depending on your skillset or passions you might get involved in:
- Assisting in the Secure by Design team, ensuring all IT activities are built, designed, and managed securely.
- Monitoring our IT estate for cyber security alerts and respond to them in a timely manner.
- Working alongside our engineering teams to better tune and maintain our security tooling.
- Participating in troubleshooting and resolving security issues, ensuring high availability and reliability.
- Working with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and deliver security solutions that meet business needs.
About You
This internship is open to current undergraduates who are in their penultimate year of study and are expecting to achieve a minimum 2.2 degree classification in Cyber Security or a degree with a significant Cyber Security module. We’d also love to hear about any relevant cyber security qualification you may have, so be sure to include these.
This is a three-month fixed-term Internship. You will need to have permanent right to work in the UK and be able to commute to our Warwick offices when required - as a part of our Hybrid working approach. Your time will be split between office days, occasional site visits and working from home.
This position is subject to National Security Clearance restrictions. This means that your eligibility may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held. You’ll need to confirm that you’ve lived continuously in the UK for the past 5 years and not been outside of the UK for a total of 6 months or more during that period. Further details are available at United Kingdom Security Vetting: clearance levels (www.gov.uk). Eligibility will be assessed in line with current government guidelines.
