About the role

We're looking for an Emergency Response Officer within the Office of the Network Emergency Co-ordinator (NEC), supporting National Gas' ability to anticipate, respond to and recover from gas supply emergencies and other disruptive events affecting the National Transmission System.

This role plays a critical part in ensuring National Gas maintains a high level of operational readiness and resilience. You'll help develop and enhance emergency response arrangements, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations while promoting industry best practice.

You'll collaborate with government departments, regulators, emergency planning organisations and industry partners to strengthen resilience across the energy sector. Through exercising, policy development and continuous improvement activities, you'll help ensure effective preparedness for national gas emergencies and support strategic decision-making during live incidents.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead the review and continuous improvement of emergency response policies, procedures and arrangements for gas supply emergencies.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in emergency preparedness, resilience and incident management.
  • Support the planning and delivery of emergency exercises and assurance activities to test organisational and industry readiness.
  • Produce post-exercise reports, identify improvement opportunities and oversee delivery of resulting actions.
  • Manage the Business Continuity process for the Energy Resilience Team, including support to the Network Emergency Management Team and the Office of the NEC.
  • Represent National Gas at industry forums, regulatory working groups and resilience networks, influencing sector-wide preparedness and response arrangements.
  • Provide specialist advice and coordination during live incidents, supporting strategic decision-making and emergency response activities.

What you'll bring

Essential

  • Degree-level qualification, or equivalent experience, in emergency planning, resilience or a related discipline.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders and managing competing priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with experience assessing complex operational and strategic risks.
  • Experience creating policies, procedures, plans or governance documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including producing reports and briefing papers for senior audiences.
  • Ability to apply sound judgement and influence outcomes across a broad stakeholder network.

Desirable

  • Experience working within a Category 1 and/or Category 2 responder organisation.
  • Knowledge of emergency planning, resilience and business continuity frameworks.
  • Experience delivering training, exercising or competency programmes.
  • Understanding of the UK energy sector and regulatory environment.

What we offer

  • Market-leading double-match pension (up to 12% company contribution)
  • Annual performance bonus up to 6%
  • Access to the Tusker salary sacrifice car scheme
  • 26 days holiday (plus statutory holidays)
  • 10x salary life assurance and income protection
  • Flexible benefits including healthcare, dental, and technology options
  • Family-friendly policies, wellbeing support, and professional development opportunities
